Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2022

Nurses Residency

Published

Hey everyone! I saw that there was a residency thread for Spring but not for Summer 2022. I graduate in March 2022 and I believe a lot of the Summer cohorts begin in June/July. I plan to move to Houston once I've written my NCLEX! Where is everyone considering applying? I am looking at Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann, MD Anderson Cancer Center and St Lukes. I would also prefer to be at hospitals specifically in the sugar land area so I hope when the time comes theyll have the units I want in certain locations. I would like to be in the PACU! Is there anyone else that wants to work in the PACU as well?

I applied in January and my application just says under review. They were one of the first to open so I'm hoping we hear something soon!

I applied in Jan too. Just making sure I wasn't the only one that didn't hear anything. Thank you for not making me feel crazy LOL

Was anyone able to attend the Pre-Match Day today for Children’s Memorial Hermann and has a list of the units they were hiring for? I wasn’t able to attend unfortunately and am not sure this info is accessible.

has anyone applied for Houston Methodist on their careers page? did anyone else apply for the different hospitals that they have and submitted the same application? its so confusing bc there's a registration website (I filled that out but didn't get a confirmation email) and there's one where there's multiple applications that you apply for.

it is super confusing, I think you do both, the registration website and the application through the career page.

Just received an email from St. Luke’s with a survey link.

I just got that email from St. Luke's too!

Hate to be that person but is anyone else coming from out of state getting a little discouraged by some of the new grad salaries in Houston? I am coming from a different state and will also be applying to hospitals here. I know it's all relative to the cost of living and since Houston is cheap it wouldnt seem like a bad salary. I have loans to pay off and just can't help feeling discouraged by the salary. I really wish I knew the salaries for all the hospitals.

I get what you mean and I’m coming from out of state too but there’s no state tax in Texas and COL is significantly lower than where I’m from. All the big hospitals seem to pay ~$32-34 base before shift differentials. I think Houston has a lot of room for growth because of how much of a healthcare hub it is. But definitely apply locally too to keep your options open. Are you planning to write your NCLEX in Texas?
