Starting a thread about Houston Nurse Residency programs that open this month/next to start in June/July!

Like if I have to wait till October but have the opportunity to do COVID testing at stand alone Urgent Care as an RN, would that hurt my chances?
No one can give you a definitive answer, because every program is different. I have heard rumors of some programs wanting fresh, not previously hired RNs. This means that the hospital can train you in THEIR ways, and not have you already stuck in another facility’s ways, if you know what I mean? But honestly if it’s just COVID testing, I would do it. That’s not patient care in a hospital setting, which I think is what they’re picky about!

That's true, I wish I could ask the recruiters.....they just never answer their emails except HCA. And if we end up getting jobs that don't start till October or even next Spring if we cant get into Fall Residencies, what are we suppose to do in the meantime to keep in the med field you know.

So honestly.. work at a testing site! I think it’s worth it - and it shows you stepped up during the pandemic. And please share how I can do this as well ?? because at this point, I need to work!

Not at the moment!! I just started searching for something in San Antonio, that's where I live right now. Most COVID testing positions for RNs want a year of experience but I'm like come on, all we need to know is the swab, educate, screening, label tubes, store them, etc.

When I spoke to her directly she told me she didn’t care if we had a couple months of experience (even as an RN!) because she understands the effects of covid & that we can’t remain unemployed. If anything it sounded like she preferred it LOL. I guess it means less people bugging her in her inbox. But again, this is what she told me, hopefully she was correct.
