Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2020

Starting a thread about Houston Nurse Residency programs that open this month/next to start in June/July!

I am currently in summer2020 nurse residency at utmb I’m in my 5th week working there. There are currently only 10 people in Summer 2020 residency group with me.

How long did it take for you to hear back about an interview after applying?

I went to apply there for fall residency and it looked like there was only one option to apply to- a night shift in League City. Is it normal for there to only be one option to apply to?

Yes it says ED! I was hoping for more options as I’m not even slightly interested in ED. I’m more of the ICU type ?

I feel like I saw a med surge one when I googled the residency but I didn't click on it so im not sure if its still available so I would look and see!

Not anymore apparently ? the only one in 50 miles of Houston was the night shift ED

Ohh dang! You should still apply though! I know you said you aren’t interested in ER, but I’m sure you can transfer after residency!

Utmb residency is very different then other hospitals. I already worked for utmb as a PCT and my manager transitioned me to a new grad nurse. But utmb hires based on unit and manager needs and hospital approval for hire. I know for a fact when you get hired by a manager and you are nurse with less than 1 year experience than you automatically go into residency but there is no general residency application you just have to search for unit openings that say nurse clinician 1. Hopefully that helps you guys!

Hey everyone! I am needing some help to make sure I'm not forgetting any RN residencies to apply to for the Fall cohort. So far on my list I have CHI St. Luke's (already in the process with them), I think I just barely missed the deadline for Methodist, HCA sucks but they're on my list even though I still haven't heard back from them about the Summer cohort, umm TX Children's (not open yet), MD Anderson (not open yet?), and Harris Health (not open yet?) What am I missing? I'm OK with the smaller hospital systems as well, I'm just not from HTX so I don't know of all the possible programs! Currently, I'm in SATX. Thank you!!

Texas Children’s & MD Anderson likely won’t have fall cohorts :/
