Houston GN Residencies

Published

I will be a new grad in May 2011 with my BSN and I have applied to a few residencies such as St. Luke's and Memorial Hermann, but I can't seem to find any of the other hospital's postings yet. Has anyone else been able to?

IM frustrated, so I can only imagine how frustrated you are as an employee there!! They asked me to do a ton of stuff to my letters of rec and transcripts back the last week of March, and I am really angry that they made me run around like a chicken with my head cut off to get that done in like 3 days and then not give me an interview??? Who did u call?

I talked to the male nurse recruiter at BT. One of my friends who went to Texas Tech's BSN program in El Paso just got called for an interview from HCHD hasn't gotten a chance to interview just yet. So I guess we have no choice but to wait. I also spoke to another HCHD student nurse intern who stated that he has yet to be called as well... so at least I think we are ALL waiting. It sucks. If all else fails Pamela, PM me and I can ask my aunt to find you a LTC facility. (She works at one so she has connections to hers, as well as others) I will see how many positions she can find so I can PM the main posters in this thread of openings! Let me know if anyone is interested.

Haven't heard any either. . .

@Pamela, thanks for the info... bummer it already passed. Even if it was for seasoned nurses I probably would have gone just to make face... bummer :/

@Trill, yes I applied there, in addition to every hospital in the Houston area.

It is so disappointing... I here so many of my classmates getting job offers left and right. And I'm talking to difficult positions to get into.... NICU at TCH, St. Luke's in med-surg, CVICU at Methodist..... I don't get it...

Where do you all go to school at? I think when I read back through some of the replies in this thread some of you were from out of town?

Mojo, I am actually from Massachusetts and relocating in June. Someone got a CVICU job as a new grad at Methodist???? They didn't even have a new grad program for ICU! ridiculous.. I am very happy for those who have gotten positions, don't get me wrong, but can't help but feel a teeny bit bitter. I'm glad to hear a lot of people have yet to hear from HCHD.. makes me feel better. I'm sure going through 500 applications takes time, and I'm sure they don't go over them everyday either. Trill, thanks so much for offering me a chance to talk with your aunt; I want to see how Wednesday goes and wait to hear from my top choice before I start looking into my other options though so I will def keep you posted!! It's great you have a solid backup, too. I'm heading down to Houston in the morning actually for my 2nd and 3rd interviews with Methodist for their CVOR new grad position. Wish me luck!!

Pamela how are you able to fly back and forth? Wow, that takes a lot of determination (and money)! I really hope you get hired somewhere!!! So your perserverance won't be in vain. Even you mojo, with applying to every single hospital! Both you ladies deserve it! People as determined as you all would make GREAT employees!

Haha thanks for the vote of confidence!!! I luckily have a boyfriend of 4 years (3 of whic has been long distance, hence why I'm moving to Houston) who works in anesthesia so he makes good money and has been paying for me to do this the past couple trips. He says he'll do what it takes to get me a job there so we can finally be together (not to get all sappy, haha)... I'm hoping me flying down there twice shows them that I want this job, and Ill be pretty darn mad if I don't get offered a position haha. But, is what it is - I'll definitely keep you posted on how things go on Wednesday it's a wicked intense interview it sounds like!

Ouch, yeah pickings are slim. Everything now a days are about who you know or how good your grades/impressions are. Trill, I think its been awhile since i replied but but yeah I already work at where you guys are applying.

It's frustrating for everyone trust me. I've had friends apply for the same job two times at HCHD. But trust me, once you have experience (yes I know experience everyone hates that word coming out of school) it gets so much easier!

I've actually seen some students walk into units and talk with the manager. Actually I'm quite impressed, reminded me of what I did at Methodist, Memorial Hermann, MD Anderson to get an interview.

Who are you guys talking to at HCHD when you are calling?? If I may ask?

@Pamela, where does he work, my sister does anesthesia also.

@TheGuy, I haven't talked to anyone, just emailed the recruiterrb email

Is Texas childrens hiring new grad? I called and was told the residency was closed but there are positions that dont require experience that are open

Mojo, he works for GHA (Greater Houston Anesthesiology).

Theguy, I was speaking with Shannon Wilmoth.

Well guys, I posted on another thread, but just wanted to update you that I never went to the Methodist interview today because last night St. Catherine's called and offered me a full time position for their new grad internship for the CCU =) I am BEYOND thrilled because it was legitimately my dream job! I start June 13th - I will no longer be a Bostonian, but now a Texan girl! :lol2:
