Houston Community College ADN

U.S.A. Texas

I'm thinking about going the RN-ADN and then BSN root. I was wondering if anyone here has experience with Houston Community College's ADN program. Is it very competitive? What kind of criterion do they use for accepting students? What's the program like once you enter it? etc.

Thanks

Wow, didn't know I had some schoolmates here. Hello Schoolmates...

Hi there! I'm getting ready to apply for Spring 07 too, but confused as hell! I can't get a straight answer for the life of me! :uhoh3: I went to an information session at the beginning of the year before they implemented the HESI requirements, so when I got an email asking about HESI, they just replied "submit your application then I will send you the August dates for HESI. After you take HESI I will send you the information for pharmacology." (I was supposed to take pharm. last spring, but had trouble with some credits transferring so had to redo a few classes.) So you must have pharm and HESI before you get accepted, yet you have to apply before you can even get clearance to take these required things? So does that mean since I WON'T have them before I apply that I WON'T get accepted when I do apply? But I MUST apply before they will even let me take these things? So confusing! :trout:

We're just one big family at HCC! Same here, if you have any questions just let me know! Good Luck!

I'm not sure about the HESI requirement, that was implemented after I got in, but I do know you have to submit an application before anything. The next step is to get approval for taking Pharm (and I assume to take the HESI as well). Once you pass Pharm and have all the required pre-reqs then your addmission is determined on a point system based on your grades, the better your grades the better your chances of getting in. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good Luck!

I am currently in my 3rd semester at HCC, and I just wanted to pipe in...

Any nursing program is hard work, any of them, you get what you want out of them, you have to put the work in, you have to know when to step up and give it your all, I think anywhere you go their are frustrations and disorganizations, their are GREAT teachers, and their are NOT so great teachers, their are classes that will KICK your buttocks, and some that allow you to relax...just a little though!!! (Don't get too excited), HCC graduate nurses get jobs all over Houston, so omit the comment that they don't (bitter), Nursing school is hard work but if it is your dream than make it happen and when you have to give 110% than give it....

One thing for sure is you have to learn to be FLEXIBLE, the sooner you learn to allow things to roll off your back the better, and learn to pick your battles wisely....Good Luck to all of you! I am here to say you can do it, just believe...

Keep in mind that many hospitals in the med center will not hire a HCC grad because they consistently have pass rates below 90%.

It's usually who you know in the administration. I currently work in the ED in the med center, mind that i'am a new grad, but they still accepted me to work in the ED.

no more semester for me ... hehehe!

with all the confusion about how bad/good HCC is... all I can say is that, they taught me right. And I believe the spring grads have a 100% passing rate in the NCLEX, correct me if i'm wrong, but that's what I heard.

hey, i just finished taking pharm at another college, and am trying to apply for hcc's adn program. I keep calling and they're telling me they don't have test dates for the pharm math test at hcc. The test I have to take to get in. BUT the deadline for the test is June 1st, does anyone know if they offer it like a week before june 1st or wat? PLEASE help me, Thanks!

I am in the same boat. I took pharmacology at North Harris, and I got an 85 for the class. Now I need to take the math test, but I just called nobody is answering the phone.
