Houston Community College ADN Spring 2016 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone,

I have started a thread for anyone who will be applying for Houston Community College ADN Spring 2016. Please add any questions and or comments and hopefully we will be able to exchange information here and keep ourselves positive on our journey to get accepted into the nursing program. I can't wait to hear from everyone! I haven't taken my HESI A2 exam so any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Anybody know how long after the deadline do they begin to send out acceptances/declines? And do they give preference to students who are currently working in the medical field. My last "medical job" was at a physical therapy clinic but it was so long ago I don't even know if it's worth putting on the application... Also, do you guys know how many students they accept and on average how many apply?

Sorry for all the questions! I'm registered for the info session next week but I can't seem to find this info in their website/documents. Thanks in advance for the help!

They say they don't but they do give preference to the ones who have worked in the medical field. So make sure you include on your application if you have experience no matter how long ago. I am not sure how many they accept but if you ask at the info session they will answer your questions. Same thing with how long they take if you have been accepted or not. Let me know here once you find out please if you don't mind.

Sure thing! I'll check back with you all after the info session.... meanwhile I'll be reading through the threads from previous semesters to see if I can dig up any info.

Hello! About to turn in my application tomorrow for Spring 2016. Very nervous about it. Worried about my GPA and I have no medical experience, bleg. :/

Hi TEXN - good luck with everything! I unfortunately won't be able to continue my application for the Spring 2016 session, as BIOL 2420 has to be completed at the time of submitting the application (I'm registered for it for this fall). Good luck to everyone else! I hope you all get in to your 1st choice program!

hey guys! can anyone tell me how long this program is? like how many semesters? and do they go through summers or take summers off? Thanks!

Hello valxoxo7. It is 5 semesters long but I am not sure if they go straight through summer. I want to say yes.

They told me that they only take the GPA from the required courses. So hopefully that will help out a little.

Can anyone tell me how you work this problem out step by step?

An infant is born weighing 7 lbs, 7 ounces. How many kg is the infant?

Hey HopefulRN25, -I would do it this way:

1 kg = 2.2 lbs

7.7 / 2.2 = 3.5 kg.

By the way...(I think I saw this before, but didn't pay attention until I started to consider HCC's nursing program a few days ago), did anybody else realize that the status for HCC's ADN program currently under warning? This is because their students have had a NCLEX passing rate under 80% for 2 yrs in a row. I was researching a few days ago and stumbled across a PDF document submitted by the Texas BON on why they are under warning, and what measures they would need to take to "pass." I don't mean to discourage anybody, but simply share what I think is important info to know.

Last night I was reading a thread where a nursing student was expressing how dissatisfied she feels with her program, that she had completed one semester in that program and was thinking about applying to another program (she's in NJ).... after reading through the comments I just wanted to share with you all what I found out about HCC's program. I would have liked for someone to tell me if I didn't know about it. I started to think that it would be a risky move (FOR ME) to be a guinea pig going through whatever changes they will implement starting Fall 2015. OR, the program could turn out really great and be much better than before. Either way, I think it's good to know. I don't mean to turn anybody away from their application process, but it's good to weigh the pros/cons and possible outcomes.

What are your thoughts?

@winemo Did you see that the same applies to some of the Lonestar campuses as well? My friend was thinking of applying there because she had a little lower hesi and GPA but changed her mind after learning about all of this. When I went with her to HCC last week the lady was very honest and said it would be best to apply at multiple locations in case theirs was canceled. Can you imagine if a few line star locations and HCC was or of the equation how competitive the others could get....wow!
