Hello! There are a few threads floating around regarding applications to Houston GN/Nurse Residency positions. I just wanted to start one that discusses all residencies in Houston.
I have already applied for a Memorial Hermann and Ben Taub Nurse residency position. I have also applied to the CVICU, ER, and Women's Services positions for Houston Methodist, as well as an ER position at Texas Children's. I am considering if I still want to apply to St. Lukes. I have decided not to apply to HCA nurse intern positions because they pay beans for the first 12 weeks, and I don't want to work for a corporation that takes advantage of their employees in that way.
I have been invited to Ben Taub's information session, and have received an email from Memorial Hermann HR regarding a behavioral assessment to be an eligible candidate for employment.
I'm wondering where you all may have applied and if anyone has heard anything back from their applications yet?
Hey guys. Hope u guys are having a great holiday. I just wanted to tell u guys about my nclex experience and hope it can help. First, let me start off by saying i was involved in a really bad accident during my 4th semester of nursing school and had to take a year off. Yes it was devastating and really hard bc it was toward my end of 4th and near my graduation. The injury i endured was TBI so going back to school was a journey in itself. I felt like i forgot everything and had to relearn everything again. Since body systems work together, if u forget one you ultimately forget all. I graduated and my school offered us Kaplan. Well i did all the questions and studied but unfortunately i didnt succeed on my first try. I used hurst for content and uworld for questions. Look into uworld on facebook and join their group. It's really helpful and it really helped me. Nclex is about knowing your basic contents and ultimately knowing what the questions are trying to ask you. Bc all the answer seem correct, but u need to know exactly what the questions are asking you so u can pick the right one. Do as many questions as u can but understand how the questions are arranged and badic contents. I studied 4hrs a day max and didnt count how many questions but im guessing no more than 100 a day. I studied like that for 3-4 wks and succeeded. If you have to take the test again, dont be down. Just keep trying and never give up. We graduated nursing school so we are capable of passing the nclex. I was really let down when i saw "stupid" people in my class pass the nclex and asked myself if they can, why cant i? But ultimately nclex is tricky and its not an easy test. Each and every test are different, sone questions can be really easy and some u just have no idea.. Which is why its important to do questions abd practice so u can make an educated guess. Happy newyears and hope to see all of u guys during orientation. Best of luck.

Thank you for this! I'm really nervous about the nclex so I have been studying every day using Hurst review. I've be doing the quizzes every other day and each time I quiz I do better and better so hopefully this is a good sign. I will look into U UWorld for questions. I'm really just excited to get it over with! I'm so thankful for the AllNurses community. I'm thankful to you ladies as well.

Hi everyone!
I plan on applying for the residency program (Summer 2016) at Childrens Memorial hermann and MH-TMC, hoping to get into the NICU! Does anyone know who I can address my cover letter to? If so, can you PM this information?
Thank you!
