Hospital Sponsoships for International Nursing Students

Published

Hi all,

I am starting my RN associates in Broward College, Fort Lauderdale, South Florida from jan 2010. Can someone please tell me about any companies or hospitals that can sponsor for my fee under the working contract. I am in States already.

I think you will find it very hard to find a employer currently willing to wait the several years it will take for you to get a immigrant visa and be able to stay and work in the US. ADN will not meet H1b requirements plus as a new grad (saying you went the BSN route which is the min requirement for H1b) you will not have specialised experience which is also a H1b requirement.

Not sure where you was born but that will have a big impact on where you stand in the retrogression queue

Thanks for the reply,

I was born in India.

The economy is bad also in Miami-Dade, and Broward counties. My cousin is a cardiologist there in Miami and they too are laying off people at the hospital level. There's no need to sponsor foreign students when they're currently cutting back.

Coming from India you will be more affected by retrogression than another country. You will more than likely have issues finding a employer and may need to consider BSN and maintain your student visa otherwise you will be looking at leaving the US once you have completed your ADN

I don't understand your question really. You're on a student visa, you don't need a sponsor. If you're doing an associate degree, this does not meet the requirements for immigration so no hospital can sponsor you for anything.

If you want to immigrate based on employment, you need a bachelor degree.

My question is about weiving my fee by a hospital under the contract of working with the same hospital for 2 years.

The problem you will have is working the 2 years because unless you already have a visa allowing you to remain and work in the US then you will be affected by retrogression and will not be able to AOS and stay and work.

I know what you're asking, but it does not make sense. You cannot get a job and stay in the US with an associates degree.

First, unless you are a US citizen, you would have to go through normal immigration processes to get a working visa in the USA: that would require you to already have a BSN degree, and have waited in a a queue of 2-5 years or more before getting here d/t retrogression.

Second, hospitals that sponsor noncitizen nurses (those that have a degree) have to prove that they cannot find citizens here in the USA to do the work. When hospitals are laying off established nurses, refusing to hire US students that they have already sponsored, that already have a license and are legally permitted to work in the USA, and there are loads of grad nurses without jobs and looking for work, hospitals have no reason or for that matter legal wherewithall to sponsor a noncitizen, that is getting a degree that may not even permit you to work legally in the USA.

Third, I believe that you need a BSN degree to immigrate and work in the USA as a foreign applicant. And due to retrogression, even after you graduate from a BSN program and get licensed, you will probably still have a long wait due to retrogression.

Actually, you a wrong.

OK - please tell me what work visa permits you to have an associates degree...?

The OP is from India, so an EB3 is out of the question for now. That leaves working visas, none of which one is eligible for with an associate degree.
