Location??? maybe...but I have a job as an RN and I don't graduate till May. There are many new grads from a semester or two ago that still are looking for work and there will be many from my class that can't get jobs in my area. Far to often I hear new grads or soon to be grads complain about the job market and in the same breath they say they are only willing to work here and these hours...etc. The reason I have a job is I took a job as a PCT and worked my butt off as I finished my last semester of school. I also have a second job waiting tables so I can pay my bills. I think jobs are out there, many just aren't willing to accept what is available or sacrifice and put in what is needed to get the jobs.

Yes, there ARE jobs out there...but not for the zillion graduate nurses looking. Unfortunately!
It goes a little something like this this:
GRADUATE NURSES > JOB OPENINGS AVAILABLE
Working your butt of has paid off, for sure! Congrats on that! It's such a blessing to have found a job! However, it's also super competitive out there to land a job. I do agree people need to be flexible, but there are many that would take ANYTHING, and it's still difficult. Some work their butt off too, it's just the economy!

Yea, I believe that's quite arrogant to say. I'm not saying that you didn't work your butt off nor that you don't deserve to have a job. Congrats to you on that. But to say that there are jobs available and new grads are being picky is simply inaccurate. In my area, there haven't been new grad positions posted in months, regardless of hospital, LTC, home health, etc. And when there is that one opening, hundreds of new grads apply making it a near miracle to be considered.
Congrats to you on having a job before you graduate, but don't say that the rest of us aren't trying hard enough.

Horray! I just got a job offer for a new grad position in the Emergency Department. The position comes with 6 Months of orientation and pretty decent pay (for the area).
I will graduate in May and I am very excited (and nervous) to have a position secured before all of the other grads flood the market.
