Moderna's clinical trial numbers show there's 'no way' Trump can have a vaccine by Election Day
QuoteContrary to his predictions, President Trump won't have a coronavirus vaccine ready by Election Day, vaccine experts tell CNN after reviewing data from Moderna, the first company to begin its Phase 3 clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine in the United States.
"There's no way. There's just no way," said Dr. Peter Hotez, a vaccinologist at Baylor College of Medicine and a CNN medical analyst.
CNN obtained part of an email Moderna sent on Friday to the principal investigators of its vaccine trials. It says 4,536 study subjects have enrolled in the trial.
The trial started the morning of July 27 and intends to enroll 30,000 study subjects. The company has said it's "on track to complete enrollment in September."...

Two coronavirus vaccines begin the last phase of testing: 30,000-person trials
Quote...Statisticians have been crunching the numbers to predict how many infections would need to occur in the study population to gauge the vaccine’s effectiveness. To show the Moderna vaccine is 60 percent effective, Fauci said, there would need to be about 150 infections among the 30,000 participants.
Since trial volunteers will receive two intramuscular injections approximately 28 days apart and be observed for side effects afterwards for up to one year, those enrolling in the study in September will not be getting 2nd injection until October, thus not minimal time for later side effects + effectiveness be know prior to Nov 3rd election. Add to the mix, online antivac contingent deriding vaccine, difficult to get enough variety etnicities, ages, and male/female balance to make objective obervation of vaccine effectiveness.
Well personally I also hope that the virus is on the way out and we find a vaccine. Not sure why this is a problem except of course that Trump said it.
Obama/Biden talked about hope and change. The change they were talking about was fundamentally changing America, looks like the radical left is still trying to do just that.
If you are not sure what that means just look at Dem run cities that continue to riot, burn, loot, and attack harass people for no reason and with very little resistance from the Dem "leadership" (Portland is the poster child but also others).
I hope that this changes.

Why exactly is Trump a victim in this conversation?

President Preposterous must be unaware that one of the favorite Russian bot/troll flames to fan are antivaxx fears. They get lots of Trump's voting base all riled up with fear and suspicion on a regular basis.

You know who the victims are? The innocent people getting killed, harrassed, injured, losing their property and livelihoods bc of the continued lock downs and bc the Dems continue to do nothing about the riots in their Dem run cities!
I think Trump can handle himself and has plenty of resources. Not so for the innocent people losing everything bc of the Dems.

Trump is currently presiding over a country struggling to mitigate a pandemic because of HIS failure of leadership and lack of clear messaging at the outset of the emergency. His incompetence continues to hamper testing and the support that state public health departments need.
Trump fans the flames of race tension on a routine basis...he seems to want to create the "American carnage" that he spoke about a few years back. Trump was the loudest voice calling black protestors names and telling his faithful fans that the protests were REALLY about hating their country and their flag and their anthem. Trump stirs crap pots everyday to keep the country divided and unable to reach concensus...he figures he will win with the minority vote if that vote is stable and everything else is divided. He will suppress the mailed vote. He will use intimidating at the polls. He will try to tamper with any election process in his reach. He will use foreign tools and techniques to force the election in his favor.
Yeah, he has lots of resources. The most valuable might be a complicit Senate.
@Daisy4RN it's important to remember that the violence and rioting can't all be placed at the feet of liberals. At least not if one is attempting to have a measured view of what is happening and what has been promised and mentioned before. A race based civil war has long been a day dream of the racist far right.

“In a potential preview of what their messaging will be during next week’s convention, the Republican presidential ticket is again insisting that the coronavirus will go away by a “miracle.”
During a Thursday night interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity timed to coincide with the final night of the Democratic National Convention, President Trump said he hoped the pandemic was “nearing the final term.”
That was followed by a round of Friday morning interviews by Vice President Mike Pence. On CNN, Pence said “we think there’s a miracle around the corner” in the form of a coronavirus vaccine that could be available by the end of the year, calling it a “tribute to President Trump’s leadership.” This follows comments from Trump earlier this month predicting a vaccine could be ready by Election Day, and earlier this year when he alluded to the virus disappearing “like a miracle.””
Any day now...... A bigly, huge, beautiful miracle that some people have talked about that loves trump will arrive.
Hope is not a strategy.
