I just wanted to let all my fellow new grads out there know that its not hopeless after all!!
I graduated in May, and got hired on yesterday on my dream floor in my dream hospital!! I am SO excited! :)
Be prepared for nights, and I did have 3 years experience as a CNA & 1 year as an LPN, so I'm not positive if that put me ahead of anyone else... I just thank God for this opportunity!!
My advice would be to apply EVERYWHERE, and set yourself apart from the other 489 applicants, go turn your resume & letter of recommendation into the unit manager & introduce yourself. I also think that helped :)
Good luck everyone.. & YAYYYYY!! :yeah:

Congrats!!! Definitely a breath of fresh air to read that a new grad got a job right away. I also just graduated in May & am trying not to be discouraged by learning that people have been trying for a year after graduating. Can I ask where you live? Also, you said you turned in your resume/cover letter to the unit manager....did you also apply online like most of the new grad jobs require?
Congrats!! Congrats!!

Thank you all!!! I am sooo happy!!
The job is in Phoenix, AZ- but in general the job climate is not too hot here... Ha.. pun.. its 106* out.. ok ok enough dry humor.. ahhh
Anyways, yes I did apply online first and then (before it says "not chosen" of course! Though I've heard that doesnt really matter, the manager can always have HR change that) turn in my resume and letters of recommendation to the unit manager.

Have you taken your NCLEX yet? If not, are you telling them "licensure pending", or not mentioning it at all?

Absolutely possible. I heard nothing but doom and gloom and felt like I had no chance of getting a job by the time graduation grew near. I have no medical experience and little job experience in the last 11 years. I ended up getting 2 interviews within a week of graduating (I took NCLEX within days and had my license the day after I took boards). I had a job offer a week and a half later from the first job I applied for in a hospital acute care floor. Not med-surg (although I would have accepted that with a smile on my face). Jobs are scarce here too, but landing one can be done.
I'm actually taking the NCLEX tomorrow (fingers crossed!) and I have an interview on Monday at a really great hospital. I am praying to pass the NCLEX and kicking butt in my interview. Just graduated less than a month ago so I haven't applied to many places (waiting to be licensed) but to those that I did apply to, I said I had my interim permit and that seems to be acceptable.
I have taken & passed my NCLEX...
