Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I've recently been accepted to Holy Family's Accelerated Nursing program-- I understand they have just begun their first cohort, so finding information is very difficult and I just want to be informed before I make any sort of decision. Are there any current HFU accelerated nursing students or traditional nursing students who can speak to their experience with the university? I've seen many negative posts but they also seem a bit outdated! Thanks!

Hey,

i just was accepted too and I'm having the same problem finding feedback but like you said they just started. Where else did you apply ?

Hi! I also applied to Villanova and -- I have been accepted to villanova, but have yet to hear from Drexel. I contacted the woman at HFU with whom I interviewed about my concerns and she put me in contact with a current student in the ABSN program, who had really great things to say about it! I would love to forward you the email she sent me. It was very reassuring!

Hey congrats on Villanova! I just heard from but they are really expensive but I read really good reviews about their program. That's good that they were able to set you up with someone to talk to. Sure feel free to forward me the email.

Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out! Like you, I have an undergrad degree. I went to Rutgers in NJ and after about three years in the social work field began to look for a career that was more flexible but within the caring professions. I took a CNA course and was lucky to end up in the ICU/CCU at Capital Health in Hopewell. There I worked with several nurses who were Holy Family alumni. Every single one had wonderful things to say about Holy Family's traditional nursing program.

When I began my search to find a second degree program I considered Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Edison, , La Salle, Gwynedd, Villa Nova etc. Holy Family had the best reputation for their undergrad program based off the network of nurses I knew. It was more affordable compared to others and generous accepting my prerequisites. I liked that it was not as accelerated as say Drexel but not part time like La Salle. We don't HESI test either which makes things slightly less stressful! I also thought the campus was nice not having to commute into the city (not sure where you live). Doing an accelerated degree program, from what I hear, helps you retain more information when you sit for the NCLEX because most of the material is still fresh in your mind.

We're currently the first Fast Track class and our class is an amazing group. We're all really close and supportive of each other. We all have such a range of experience that we share with each other. Being accepted into the program, you know they handpicked each one of us. The instructors we have now are really dedicated to helping us understand all the material in a short of amount of time. Everyone wants you to succeed here and the majority of us are achieving very high grades. I really like the program and I find the workload to be manageable. The professors are all very approachable and down to earth. We also have access to the Northeast campus for lab, library, and other resources. The Newtown campus has pretty much everything you need in and of itself.

Nursing school is a huge endeavor and I wish you the best on your journey. Hopefully this helps? A little? If you have any specific questions please feel free to contact me again :)

Well that was definety reassuring ! How did you feel about it ?

Her message was really the reassurance I needed ! I am a Villanova student currently, so the pull to the VU program is definitely strong, but with the massive cost difference, Holy Family seems to have taken the lead. I haven't paid my deposit yet or anything, but as of now am seriously considering attending Holy Family in the fall!

Yea same thing ! The cost is really a big factor in my decision.

mine as well! i talked to the woman i interviewed with about creating an accepted students FB group to try and meet more potential students! hopefully we've just linked up with our first future classmate :)

Yea that sounds great because I am out of state and need to relocate it.

@nict689 I've been in contact with admissions and am trying to start a fb group for accepted students BUT it wont let me make the group until i have other people to add to it lol and as of now I do not know anybody.. IDK if there is a way to send a private message on this forum but if you want-- email me at [email protected] and I can add you?

Hi,

I am very interested in doing a second degree nursing program. I went to for undergrad as a Finance/Econ major and worked on Wall Street. I realized that it wasn't for me and I want to pursue a career in nursing. I recently quit my job and I am taking my prerequisites for an accelerated nursing program. I just applied to HFU for Spring 2016. I'm a little concerned about my chances of getting in to many of these programs because I won't be done with my prerequisites until December of this year.

I graduated with a 3.8 at Drexel in the Honors College and I got A's in Statistics and Nutrition. I am also volunteering with an NP once a week to gain some clinical experience. I just started taking Anatomy and Physiology I and II and these will be done by August. I'll be taking Microbiology in the fall and that won't be done until December (only a month before the spring program would start at HFU). I can try to change the Micro class to the second summer session, but it would be a tough schedule. Do you know if they would realistically consider someone if the prerequisites wouldn't be done until that late?
