Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I've recently been accepted to Holy Family's Accelerated Nursing program-- I understand they have just begun their first cohort, so finding information is very difficult and I just want to be informed before I make any sort of decision. Are there any current HFU accelerated nursing students or traditional nursing students who can speak to their experience with the university? I've seen many negative posts but they also seem a bit outdated! Thanks!

We had multiple ATIs and then a comprehensive at the end. You get 2 attempts at the comprehensive. If you fail both you still graduate but they won't let you sit for NCLEX until you finish a 12 week online ATI review

So after each course you would take a final written by the professor then take an ATI proctored exam for example in MedSurg or Pharm?

I was also reading that some school curriculums are VERY ATI focused as in you take your professor's MedSurg exam and if you pass it and dont pass the ATI MedSurg you fail?

Are Holy Family's multiple ATI test used as an indicator of progress or if you fail the tests you fail the class?

Sorry for all the questions each nursing school does things differently and it's throwing me for a loop reading how one school's ABSN curriculum and standards are drastically different

Our ATI proctored exams only account for a very small percentage of our grade. Also the grading on ATI I believe goes off a national average, so there are levels. The level you get will translate into what percent you get in the class. Our curriculum is not 100% centered around ATI but we do utilize the ATI texts a lot in our information. I actually prefer the ATI texts to the actual textbooks.

You will have a class written exams. Your ATI proctored exam is in Med-Surg 2 and Pharm 2, that you will take once at the end of the semester. Then you will have them for each subject after. ATI should not make you fail the class if your class exams have a decent average, it'll really only effect the people on the line between passing and failing. Then as BA2012 said, you'll take your comprehensive ATI exams at the end of the program.

ATI should just be meant as a tool to help prepare you for the NCLEX.

Ok that is reassuring.

There is just so much disdain online about how ATI proctored exams count for 25% of your overall grade or determine whether or not you pass or fail.

Did you mainly use your class powerpoints or were you mixing studying bw the ATI books + powerpoints?

Some people mention doing ATI practice questions + uWorld, what worked best for you

I will still apply to Holy Family after these discussions for sure, thanks for answering all my questions

We record the lectures, I'll go back and re-listen to them while reading my notes/power points. I'll then reference the text and ATI text. Sometimes I'll use ATI practice questions and I just go online to find practice questions as well. It's all what works for you. You will learn 90% of what you need in class. People use UWorld after they're finished but I've heard better things about Kaplan.
