Hey Allison,

I'm suprised you got that much info. I keep getting told every class is different. Okay, I understand that but what was last semesters cutoff and they said we dont discuss those numbers. It's like its one big secret and sounds to me like the good ol boy or gal system. they want the extra money so they tell no one. 250 application times 50....25 for net and 25 for application equals 12,500 of easy money. Speaking of the net I cant get that info either...like what are they going by the composite or reading part. they just say if your not happy take it again..... Lets take a ride on the money machine. I'm also very frustated.

Today I was told the last 3 admission cycles did not admit below 3.8!!!! so which is accurate?

Nursing school admisson is ridiculously competitive. The cutoff depends on the GPAs of the applicants. I didn't get accepted because of a C in math (taken back in 1975) so I went to LPN school, and am now about to finish the RN. I know that some people get huffy about the suggestion of going to LPN school first, but it really is a terrific option (you get to work as a nurse a year sooner and start to gain experience and confidence), and you will have no problem getting in to a bridge program.

I understand it's competitive and I am applying to both RN and LPN programs. My frustration is the contradictory information I am given! Is it 3.5 or 3.9 I don't know because apparently they don't either!!!!!! I know it is lower than that for other programs that require more and harder pre req classes. I can probably get in there but the schools are further from me and I would have to commute.

I realize this may not be possible for some but a friend of mine was in the same situation 2 yrs ago in iowa (she had a 4.0gpa). She eventually started applying everywhere to multiple states because they said she would be placed on a 2yr wait list in IA. Finally she got in to a Illinois school w/in a year. Just a thought. good luck.

i think you are confusing apples with oranges......because last year the lost GPA that got in was 3.8 only means that they had enough applicants at that level that they neednt accept anyone lower.....that is why it would vary from year to year......you may be considered, but if there are enough with the higher GPA you will not get in....depends on the applicant pool EACH year....

Wow. Im getting worried now. I have a 4.0 but my scores on the NET aren't very good. Im taking it again before I apply. What is everyone getting on the NET???

I am a Dec 2008 PHCC RN Generic grad..I think I can answer a few of these. I was in the second class admitted under these new rules.

Every class depends on the quality of the applicants. I had a 3.6 but a high net score so I got in. Admission is based 50/50 between GPA and Net.

I would suggest if you haven't bought the NET study guide you do now. Go through it a few times. Don't stress out. This test is nothing compared to nursing school. It is reading paragraphs and comprehsion of what you read and then math questions.

Do the practice tests. You will get your results immediately.

Do apply for both programs. They do waitlist a handful of candidates. Yes, some do changed their minds and don't enroll come time for class. I had several waitlisted people in my class. They passed boards on the first try. One even started classes on the third day.

If you question your GPA, again...nail the Net. It is 50% of the equation.

Do you know for a fact that its a 50/50 split or just surmizing? from what you experienced.

HI,

It is a 50/50 decision based on your net score and your 5 required entrance courses gpa. This is a fact. The overall point value/ranking is based on just these two numbers. High scores and high GPA (based off required classes only). They changed this policy a few years ago and did away with the first come first served. They wanted to get the students that had the dedication to put forth the effort needed to not just pass the classes but also boards. The nursing program is unlike anything you have done in your classes so far. They are looking for the best of the best so to speak.

The waiting is killer....how I remember. Hang in there...the letters go out soon. You have done your work, taken the test and now wait to see where you fit in.

Thanks for the reply. I just cant believe they put a whole 50 percent on the net. Its only one test, for 2 hours and the prereqs are longer harder and require far more studying. I would think it would be a 80/20 split or maybe 75/25 weighted split. Well this does favor me a bit, just cant believe it. I have a 3.9 Gpa and a 93 net. But it just doesnt seem fair with the amount of work we put into the prereqs. Anyways its great to hear from someone who knows.

NRCNurse, which LPN program did you attend and how was it? Was it worth it and what was the cost? Did you find that having already done college pre reqs i,.e anatomy or psych helped you in LPN school?
