Hit in the groin during clinicals

Published

Hello everyone, I am happy to say that I am now a student nurse in a BSN program! I use to post on here worrying that I would not get in the program and now here I am in my second semester! Anyways, I had an embarrassing happening today, has any other male been accidentally hit in the groin by a patient during clincals? Just wondering because it happened to me today and it was kinda embarrassing because I'm the only male in my group lol Just was curious to get a discussion on embarrassing things that happen during clinicals.

Probably about as often as a female takes an elbow to the breast. It's likely a non-issue except for people maybe being sympathetic.

I have been slapped, goosed, my junk grabbed, and had an OR bed attachment for shoulders spring up and hit me in the groin.

The patients are at the perfect height as you stand at their bedside, expect it to happen a few times.

Junk grabbed...... Luckily I went into Occ Health. Not much of that going on with the factory workers!

Oh my! Ouch! I am a girl and I cringed at that. The bed attachment must have hurt like crazy.

Of course you get hit in the groin. it's a nothing issue unless it was deliberate.

Specializes in Critical care.

Patients often grab things that hang down. Especially confused disorientated patients. The only thing you really need to avoid doing when they grab onto something dangly is drop them, as their grip is rather firm.

Specializes in Maternity.

I remember years ago I was doing a delivery with the woman in lithotomy and her foot slipped out and caught me full on in the knackers. The husband had already fainted and was sitting in the corner and I dropped like a sack of potatoes and had to finish the delivery on my knees.

I had two separate occasions in which a patient deliberately kicked me during a violent patient situation. One even told my nurse manager "he made me kick him in the balls." Apparently the word "no" didn't go over so well. I couldn't exactly walk away though as it was only two small female left to restrain the patient if I left.

I've been grabbed a few times, by the confused and the not so confused. Only females so far.

Had one etoh patient catch me once, but that guy had a lot of crazy things happen.
