Hiring Freeze

Has anyone heard about this hiring freeze on Boston hospitals? I have been hearing little things about it, but I haven't actually seen any articles about it in the papers. Does it include hiring nurses?

I haven't heard anything at all but am interested in knowing. How can there be a freeze with nursing shortages all over the country?

I hear that Boston Medical Center has a hiring freeze. They uses to receive the most money from the free care pool, but now that medical insurance is supposedly mandatory, the free care pool funds have dried up and they are being hit hard since they still serve the same population that are still basically uninsured. And they cant turn them away.

The Brigham is hiring as I just received a job offer from them today. And BI is hiring because the manager of my floor interviewed a new grad (Associate Degree graduate) this morning.

Thanks Gerry, thats pretty much what I heard. What floor do you work on at BI, I thought Boston hospitals weren't hiring ADNs? Im doing my preceptorship over there now.

I heard the same thing about BMC. BI does hire ADN grads, they're one of the few (but also the lower paid of the lg teaching hospitals).

I work on Farr 3 Cardiac Intervention. I like it but the staffing issues at BI are starting to wear on me.

as far as staffing issues, its soo draining and not enough money is given to budget for the nursing and its taking a toll

Well, the fact that they are building another brand new building for 2011 likely has something to do with it. The hiring freeze is set until July I think.

And yes, there is a nursing shortage, but I think it's for experienced nurses, not new grads. There needs to be "senior" nurses to train us newbies....just a thought. :specs:

BMC is on a freeze. I cant even move laterally at this moment. :(

I have heard that other hospitals are also on hold.

MGH is on a hiring freeze because they are over budget this year by a lot thus making it harder to hire anyone.
