I am having so much anxiety over the lack of staff, supplies, support ,the working conditions. I just dont want to do this any more. 25 years in nursing. I'm an ED RN.

It seems crazy to me! Why we don't have protocols in place to move RNs to an area that needs them, is beyond mind blowing.

Hi, The powers to be have decided that our BD autoguard IV caths no longer meet INS safety requirements. They have introduced these Bbraun IV caths. We(the ed nursing staff) as a whole have now petitioned to remove these Bbrauns and re install the Bd auto gaurds. Does anybody have experience with these B Braun IV caths? Good or bad? The reps tell us that most hospitals have switched to these due to the fact that the Bd autoguard no longer meet INS safety requirements. If your facility have made an IV cath switch what did they switch to? and why? We believe that this switch was a cost control issue. They trialled these IV's in a Pre op holding area against one other cath (we dont know what that was) What we heard from these nurses were that the Bbraun where the lesser of two evils. We are a level one trauma ED. The issues we have with these caths is blood exposure. The need to adjust our techniques and practice in the mist of chaos , is leaving us more exposed to blood and needle sticks . Any insight, positive or negative , on this issue is appreciated . We need concrete, evidence based information to make our switch back or to bring in a better product than the Bbraun. thanks

We have had mandatory health care here in Massachusetts for about 3 years now. I find it interesting that this was never brought into any of the discussions , any where any news outlet, any debate ,anything. You are fined a penalty at tax time if you have not had insurance . I still do not know how I feel about this. I went from the micu to the ED about 2 years ago. I have to tell you the abuse of the health care system at the tax payers expense is discusting! They come into the ED for HCG testing, STDS, allergies, ear wax, constipation, splinters, rx for tylenol , refills, etc .I could go on with this ridiculous list. I always ask this question "did you call your pcp before coming to the ed?" 'NOPE " is always the answer. I have a 75 dollar co pay for the ED. Why dont they? They have fake nails, cell phones, Ed hardy sweatsuits, gucci bags, draped in gold and they cant pay a co pay? They cant get 3 dollar hcg test at CVS? Buy a bottle of generic tylenol? Get some colace? Call there doctor? I emailed my senetor about this. I was so fed up with the abuse I see every day. It is a federal law "you come into the ed you get seen" period. That is fine . Fine come in for a splinter but pay at the door. geesh .it would be cheaper for us to hand out 10 dollar CVS cards at the triage desk! So much is wrong with "health " (cough)care.This has been YEARS in the making ,this festering pool of disaster, waste, entitlement. It is not Obama's fault .it not even Bush's fault (that is hard for me to say) . Its not the dems or the gops fault. massachusetts mandatory health care bill came from a republican gov . It is Romneycare.I dont know whos fault it is . I really do not even care. I care about how are we going to fix this? We as nurses are the biggest advocates for change. WE know where the waste is :Ceo pay, Top heavy management,health insurance co, goverment paperwork ,stupid ED visits, lack of preventive care, entitlements, Gov red tape, blah ,blah , blah. so what are we going to do about it?

I like Izzy scrub bottoms by Peaches. They are wider in the legs and dont have that slit that runs up the side( I just cant stand the slits.) great variety in petites.

I am not liking this! Where is the union in all this? Is this LTC? Tell the DON she can round with DPH and have her pic done! and refuse! You have rights to!. This whole DPH survey and JCHO thing is such a JOKE! They all have more rules and reg that make our jobs so much more difficult and now we have no right to refuse pics? Geez. I hope they try this at our hospital!

Well you need the cxray to confirm no active disease. But you will have to wait on that. So this might affect your hiring. They are pretty firm on this ppd thing now ever since that med student thing. I remember when I became positive .I had had my ppd planted and within hours it was red and itchy and just got bigger and bigger. I had my cxray which was negative and did 6 months on INH. Being ppd+ doesnt mean you have active disease . They can do other screenings like night sweats and gi upset and the biggies like sudden wt loss or productive cough. BMC is on a freeze. I cant even move laterally at this moment. I have heard that other hospitals are also on hold.

OK ,There is a nurse at work. You know the type angry, unapproachable, makes working very difficult, complains. Well Ive had it! I want to approach her and nip this in the bud since i am her target this week. I'm sick of all of us just accepting her behaviour. We all talk about her , we have all made her "craplist' of the day and we all just walk on eggshells to not p#ss off Blank RN. This weekend was the last straw . I cant take her aggression, her picking fights, her singling out the one RN of the night that will be her target, while she is all OK Honey ,OK sweetie, OK buddy with another nurse she knows wont call her on her crap. How do I address her behaviour with her. I have to work with her in a few more nights I have no idea how to go about this. I am not a confrontaional type but this has to stop! I cant do it anymore. We all think How can we get rid of her? How can we make her quit? How can we deal with her? But I'm at the point where I just want to let her know I hate working with her because she is a jerk and I wont take it anymore in a professional way . Help!!!!!!
