Advice - Graduating Aug 08 and relocating
This line when it was originally written really upset and discouraged me. The general advice in the post was spot on, but the way in which it was delivered was unkind. I will always consider how I felt at this time in my life when I go to give a new grad advice. I think we should all do the same because this position is not foreign to any of us, it's very scary and disheartening at times. I am happy to say that I received two job offers within three weeks upon returning to Massachusetts. BEFORE passing the NCLEX. So to those of you reading this forum - new grads - out of state nurses - it CAN be done and grades do matter! Thank you to those of you who did offer kind and honest advice. I wish all of you luck who are looking for new positions. Things will turn up. Keep trying and make applying your full time job! :) (and I know a place who is hiring if anyone is interested, PM me)

Help! Why can't I find a job?!
Have you ever considered getting reciprocity in NH? I used to live in Pepperell and several of my friends parents worked in NH. I know St. Joseph's in Nashua is hiring. Not a bad commute and worth a shot :)

Poll for those who have already taken NCLEX..
1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75 2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? Kaplan Review Course (which wasn't a huge help) Kaplan Course Book (which was) Saunders Comprehensive Review (Silvestri) 4th edition Kaplan Q Bank & Question trainers Questions on Saunders CD NCLEX 3500 online exams 3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? ATI 4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 48 hours 5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? At first I was certain I had passed since I had studied so hard and only had 75 questions. But 48 hours does alot to your mind and I kept remembering questions and looking up the answers and quite a few were wrong. So I then convinced myself I had failed. I was a basket case. I passed! 6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes

Need help on how to prepare for then nclex rn. Failed first time I took the test.
Here's what I did: 1. Took Kaplan - I don't think the course helped me but the book did 2. Read Kaplan Course Book cover to cover 3. Read Saunders Comprehensive Review 4th Ed. cover to cover 4. Woke up every morning and did a Qbank test 50 questions 5. Took the quizzes at the end of each chapter in Saunders before reading, then taking again at the end 6. Did every single Kaplan question available, all Q trainers and Q bank 7. Did a bunch of NCLEX 3500 75 question comprehensive tests 8. Did a bunch of Saunders 100 question tests from the cd that comes with the book Honestly, I just holed myself up and bombarded myself with material. And yes I still felt like I knew nothing on the day of and I know quite a few questions that I got wrong. But I passed in 75 and obviously my plan worked for me :) I also think my school rocked!

Scrubs & Shoes
I'm just south of Boston but have no problem driving for a good store with plenty of options. Do any of you have suggestions? I also like the pants with more of a bootcut type bottom, any suggestions on brands that are comfortable? I have heard that clogs are comfortable but which brands and where can they be found? I'm obviously new to the profession and need some good advice :) Thanks!

So what exactly is legal?
I see lots of people posting that they got lots of meds and infection control. Is that legal to say since they are not being specific? Or does that fall under disclosure since it's content of the exam?

Why is it...
Hello, and I'm freaking out too :barf01:I am taking it tomorrow as well bright and early at 8am. Honestly I don't think I could ever know ALL side effects of drugs, all the drugs, or signs and symptoms of various diseases, all I seem to remember is hypercalcemia - slow like cow moo which makes hypocalcemia easier lol The others I think will be a hit or miss. I am sitting here freaking out that NCLEX will just keep giving me the questions I definitely don't know, since they then give you easier questions and I'm way better at analysis! Yep. I'm neurotic.

Dealing with an MI
I personally gave my patient 02 the first time I experienced someone having an MI in the clinical setting because I couldn't run to the pyxis straight away and leave my patient to get morphine. If I were a lay person I would have the pt stop activity, call 911, and administer aspirin if anyone had any, if, in fact, they did not have NG. However, they say NCLEX is ivory tower nursing and we are to assume we have everything we need at the bedside. Which means that all of the above would be there. And I have seen many write down MONA. Which puts morphine first. I, however, disagree and would give my patient Oxygen first. This is why I'm scared because I'm taking the NCLEX tomorrow! So please tell me if my rationale is incorrect! Thanks!

Dealing with an MI
In school we learned: 1. Stop Activity 2. O2 3. EKG (preferably before NTG but if you don't have time then give NTG) 4. Nitroglycerin sublingual 5. Morphine IV 6. Nitroglycerin IV Now I'm studying and I see people saying "choose Morphine first". What's the NCLEX stance on this?

NCLEX 3500 Questions
Thanks everyone. I will just keep studying as I am. However, the scores do help in my studying and give me confidence if I do better. I just got an 80 on the pretest on NCLEX 3500 so I guess I'm not doing too poorly but I will keep at it lol I can't wait until this is OVER!

Just took NCLEXRN/ton of Sata
Select all that apply. I've heard that the SATA are higher level questions - which means that if you got several and ended on a lower amount of questions - odds are you passed.

NCLEX 3500 Questions
I have been using Kaplan Q Bank & Question trainers, Saunders Comprehensive Review 4th edition CD, and NCLEX 3500. I'm doing average on Kaplan - typically high 60s and my Q bank is at 63% average (there was a rogue 40 something in there!) but I'm not positive how you should be doing on Saunders or NCLEX 3500 questions. Do any of you know what the "passing" score is for thier questions? I've gotten anywhere from 57-77%. Any help would be appreciated!! I'm taking NCLEX next Wednesday and I'm pretty nervous. I'm also having a hard time focusing to finish up the last 300 odd pages of the Saunders book. Thanks for listening and for any info you can provide!

Moving to MA
No, I also did not do my practicum or clinicals there. So it's possible :) Did you work as a PCA? I think that may have helped.

Moving to MA
I just got hired as an RN within the partners system at one of the hospitals in Boston so I don't necessarily think you should look elsewhere. Especially if you have experience. I think you are a step above us new grads because you have experience and that is what the hospitals are looking for. Have you thought of doing a travel nurse position up to MA?

ATT: How Long Until You Received Yours?
Thanks!
