A couple of days ago I heard a rumor that HHC Facilities had lifted their hiring freeze and are beginning to call people in for orientation.
Has anyone heard the like? Any truth to it?
Thanks in advance.
It may seem promising if they have openings on their websites but I know them too well. I have known them to post positions that have already been filled just to appear pc.
Also, they had the nerve to show up at a job fair back on election day when they were already on freeze.
Thanks everyone for the news. Maybe things will be better after this quarter...
I was hired by woodhull in January. Was supposed to start in february. However after completeing all the necessary pre-employment stuff, physical, finger printing etc, I am still waiting to start. HR told me that at first they had a hiring freeze for everyone except nursing positions. Then just my luck, nursing was included as well. What a bummer. I was really looking forward to starting too. But, as we all know, the city's budget is experiencing deficits. I am just glad that I did not quit my current job in anticipation of starting.
Girls1, do you follow up with either hospital to see what's their estimated dates of calling "hired" nurses. Or are you just going to forget about them altogether and stay at the nursing home? Also did you complete the pre-employment process as well?
I guess I feel a little better knowing that I'm not the only one.
Misery do love company I guess lol !!!
HHC does have a tendency to list positions to be 'pc' while they have already hired. There is a strong rumor, however, with Mary Immaculate and Saint John's hospital closing, funds have been given to Queens hospitals to hire some staff to offset the abundance of patients spilling over to neighborhood hospitals. Good luck, everyone!
Update: Finally HHC's Woodhull Hospital called me yesterday to inform me that my orientation start date is 4/6. My offer letter was emailed as well. I was loosing hope after the waiting. I was actually on my way to an interview when I received the call. I am glad the wait is finally over.
It was a critical care unit. Many nurses "disappeared."
I am not going to say anything to discourage you. What was bad for me does not mean it is also bad for you. It is very important to follow your heart. If psych is what you wanna, then you should go for it.
Regarding to the parking, I only stayed there for 18 months and parking was free as a part of sign on bonuses. Parking in the street is not easy if your preferred shift is day. Evening and night are easier but try not to park an expensive car in the street.
You mind if I ask you why you like to be a psych nurse?

I will ask my friends anyway!
I used to work for one of the HHC hospitals! But last week, when I checked the website, it was not even there!
