  1. Nursing home will be more like the hospital than homecare. Good luck to your friend.
  2. Congrats on passing the interview! Since they had an immediate need for nurses, I did the physical the day of the interview and HR called me a few days after I was cleared medicallyy. The backround check takes 1-2 days to complete. I interviewed in late January and started March 1. HR called to tell me my background check was good a week before the start date. The orientation is quite thorough so I'm not even in the ER yet! You have 4 weeks of classroom orientation and about 6 weeks of orientation in step down and med-surg floors before the trip down. It is a level one trauma center though and it's always packed when we go to sign in and out. The med tests are not too bad. They are drug calculations and you are allowed to use your own formulas and calculators. We go to the ER on May 17th and we have to go in five days per week until September. I'm sorry about the spacing. I'm on my phone and it's hard to form paragraphs.
  3. I was not in constant communication with them. They called me about 3-6 months after my interview to ask me if I was still interested and I said yes. They informed me that they still were still not allowed to process new applications. After months had passed, I had pretty much given up on them; especially after speaking to someone last summer who said that after 6 months, all paperwork was null and void and that I would have to reapply. This was someone in human resources though. It was nurse recruitment that called me recently asking if I was interested in a position. But it was for a different position.
  4. Update: Lincoln finally called me! I don't have a start-date yet but I'm waiting for HR to call me in for a backround check! A 15 month wait!
  5. I hope experienced nurses will respond to your thread. I have about a year of LTC experience and will soon be going into a hospital; I have some of the same concerns you do. I am a native new yorker so I don't fear new yorkers. The populations you face in the hospital will be similar to those you meet in the area where you work depending on your floor's specialty. Some patients may be difficult to work with but many are not. You could take a cultural sensitivity course if you feel this would help. Many nurses are not taught phlebotomy these days because of the various allied health roles that are common today. If you want to learn IV, your hospital may offer a course for this. Many hospitals have IV teams though so you needn't worry about this right away. As far as the equipment goes, your orientation will include an inservice on all the equipment. From glucometer to bloodpressure machine and so on. You are an experienced nurse and that will not change. You will do great! Sorry there are no paragraphs; I'm typing on my phone.
  6. Tell me about it.

Thanks for the heads up Mia :) I don't know if this one will be any better. But I know I know I'll be there. LOL. We have to keep trying no matter what.

I know guys. Let's hang in there. We need to have faith that the right position will come and the right time. Nursing shortage my rear. Apparently things will turn around because "they always do". Let's see when that happens.

What a bust it was. This fair was nothing like last year's. There were few hospitals and some of the ones represented had the nerve to tell people to apply online! Others were frank about not having any open positions.
  10. Hi Melita. I didn't even realize the courses were offered in Manhattan. That's already a bonus. I have an appointment to see a counselor in November and will be submitting my application shortly since I would like to be considered for spring admission. Bring on the info!
  11. I'm thinking about doing Adelphi's ASCEND program for my BSN. So far all sounds well but I wonder if anyone has been through the program. I could use a little insight. Thanks.
  12. I totally see your point. Wer'e human. I feel the same way at my job. Anyway, you will get a lot more responses if you post this on the general board.
  13. Ladylash, did they give you a start date? Thanks everyone for your info.
  14. I'm hearing this from different sources but don't personally know anyone who got hired. I spoke to the recruiter at Harlem and they are not hiring. Lincoln has not called me either. Has anyone heard that any city hospitals are hiring? Looking for a ray of hope here.
  15. I would contact an attorney and see what he/she has to say. This must be difficult for you.
