Hiring freeze lifted at certain hospitals?

U.S.A. New York

Published

A couple of days ago I heard a rumor that HHC Facilities had lifted their hiring freeze and are beginning to call people in for orientation.

Has anyone heard the like? Any truth to it?

Thanks in advance.

I have called every HHC nurse recruiter in queens and bklyn and they all say the same thing. They're not hiring new grads right now. I am frustrated, I hope I get a job soon!!!

Specializes in LTC.

Congrats Bklyn. This is a good sign for others as well. I wish you the best at Woodhull.

Be confident RNJun-you will find something. It will just take time :)

Specializes in Medsurg, Homecare, Infusion, Psych/Detox.

Thank you Girls1.

Fortuneteller thanks for your response, much appreciated.

As for why I "like to be a psych nurse."

Psych will be a new area for me to add to my career garden. Also I always found psych fascinating ever since I did psych rotation while in nursing school. I think it will be a good fit for me and a change of scenery from what I'm doing now. Funny thing was that I had not specifically applied for psych, I sent a generic resume and was open to whatever they had available that was on my mental list. Since psych was available and I was open to it, I agreed to be interviewed for it. The rest is history.

Also I used to work with the MR/DD population prior to nursing, so its somewhat in the same realm. And while I was in med/surg many of my patients were from the psych dept. To be honest, many pts confided that they were not really "crazy," they just pretended to be so they will be a priority and qualify for housing or other public benefits. It was real sad. Yet others were certified "mad," and a danger to self and others.

I emphatised with them all. Mental illness has also touched my close friend's family.

I really think I will like working in psych.

Good luck!

By the way, they allow you to park your car on the 4th floor and you have to apply for it. In my case, it took them nearly 3 weeks to give me the permission to do so. The 4th Floor parking is so much safer.
