A couple of days ago I heard a rumor that HHC Facilities had lifted their hiring freeze and are beginning to call people in for orientation.Has anyone heard the like? Any truth to it?Thanks in advance.

I called about a tech position earlier this month and they said they were on a hiring freeze. I guess the only way to find out would be to start calling.Anway, just bumping the thread.CARMZZ

Feb 21, 2009 I don't have any information on the specific hospital in the OP, but this is what is happening at my hospital in another part of the country:Positions were frozen etc. in the last few months, getting the staffing levels down about as low as the administration wants to get them. Now, as a few people leave and create vacancies, they are beginning to fill those vacancies -- NOT getting us back to the levels of staff we had in time past, but keeping the current level steady by hiring to replace those who leave. In addition, we are aware that if we wait until summer to make committments to new grads, we may find that the "cream of the crop" is no longer available. So, we are starting to offer interviews to a few outstanding students scheduled to graduate in May based on our assumption that we will want to hire a few of them 5 months from now.
SueNYC 131 Posts Feb 21, 2009 I spoke with hr at one of the hhc hospitals that I interviewed with back in sept. when they only had per diem available and was told that they are still on freeze as well as most of if not all of the other hhc's as well. She also told me that those they did hire back in sept as per diem still havent been able to attain ft or pt positions. She said that she feels so sorry for all the new grads because she has hundreds of resumes just sitting on her desk with nowhere to put anyone. I was just reading an article in the advance and its all about how new grads are having no luck in attaining positions. The recruiter at lich said for the first time ever she has no positions for even their nursing schools graduates. Its a truly unfortunate situation especially when I know for fact many of these hospitals are still working short staffed.

lpn2icu 144 Posts Feb 22, 2009 Yeah...They have lifted it!Just type "HHC jobs listing" in your webbrower, it should lead you to a HHC employment listings. Click "to see all employment listings", you should see a list of hospitals and jobs listed in each of the HHC hospitals. I remember I checked it last week, it was not even there. Good luck! The hiring freeze is finally over!....But there are few openings than 1 year ago...Well, at least, the hiring freeze is over!
SueNYC 131 Posts Feb 22, 2009 lpn2icu....I dont know what exactly you checked last week that has changed this week but ive been consistently looking at the hhc website for months now and if you look at the jobs listed barely any are for rn's. I think woodhull has two listed and kings county and those have been the same listings for quite some time.
BahRamZRN 8 Posts Feb 22, 2009 I called HHC Nursing recruiting last Wednesday (2/18/09) and they told me they were indeed on a hiring freeze, and for everyone (I guess they're getting a lot of calls) to be patient. She said they're still forwarding resumes to hospitals, but that they're not hiring at the moment.
