I believe it would be a violation of Americans with disabilities act to exclude you based solely on a Dx
This kind of discrimination would be very hard to prove.
Whoever is doing the hiring can always claim they turned the disabled person down for some other reason. Employers hold all the cards in the hiring process, especially in today's lousy economy.
However, I hope no one takes this to mean that I don't think that the OP, BeOne77, should try to get work as a nurse. I read all the time about hiring managers who see value in people who have made mistakes.
(Unfortunately, in my case, I haven't found a job yet, so that's why I say that I read about it. )

I had an interview at the state psychiatric hospital and when I informed them of my participation in PNAP they rescinded their job offer. There is a small behavioral hospital in my area that I heard was recovery friendly and have interviewed there also and the DON told me she has been willing to give nurses in recovery programs a chance but her other staff has not been as receptive and accepting and it is not something she she has been able to overcome.
