Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

I am definitely going to appeal. Don't know anything about the process after the appeal, but I'm fighting!

Good deal! Let us know how it goes. If you look at prior years threads, there are always people who get their GPA miscalculated and most get in.

Hang in there.

Hi all, just got home and got my letter, but unfortunately I was denied. They miscalculated my gpa to be a 3.3 but I have. 3.57... I'm super upset!!

That STINKS!! Make sure you file an appeal to have them recalculate your GPA. Unfortunatley there is always a couple people every semester that have their GPA calculated wrong. I hope they fix it for you in time to join our class.

This weekend me,deltacrux and fx have made plans to celebrate, anyone who wants to join us can pm me and we can decide on a time, date and place,;-)

Does anyone know how many alternate spots there are? I am still praying that I get in. I unfortunately will have to wait a little longer until I find out but I am at least more hopeful now. I thought for sure I wouldn't get in. A stupid "C" in English from over 10 years ago is pulling my GPA down but have had all A's since returning to school at HCC to pursue nursing.

Halberry, sometimes life tries to test ourselves to see how much we want something, listen to me, you've been denied does not mean you're not going to be a nurse, is only a small obstacle you have to overcome. Keep your head up, fight!!

Hi there, unfortunately there is no way for us to know,we need to wait and see how many people fail the drug test, don't turn in papers on time, miss orientation, don't do a background check or just can't accept a spot. There are about 130 nursing spots, and then then when someone drops next in the GPA line gets called. Good luck!

Thanks...still hopeful.

I hope everything goes well with the appeal. I have read a few posts from previous semesters where they got it fixed!

Yeah. I e-mailed Health Sciences today asking about my letter, and was told (in not so many words) to hold on and chill out until the end of the week. If I hadn't received anything by then, to let them know and they would figure something out.

In other words, suck it up and deal with it until then you impatient idiot (I originally did not write idiot but decided against it).

So we'll see...

Nooo! I remember reading another post where that happened to someone and they were able to pick a copy up at the Health Science office. I think they did have to wait a week though. Hopefully it comes today. I will cross my fingers! :)

I'm an ALTERNATE!!! Finally after my 3rd time applying! Even though it is not guaranteed at least there is still a possibility that I can get it. It is far better than a rejection. So to all that got accepted and got chosen as an alternate, congratulations!!! To everyone else, if this is really what you want to do, please don't give up. I'm not out of the woods yet but...I'm thinking positive from here on out. Wish me luck :)
