Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

Well like I said "...not to knock anyone who went to community college" meaning don't take offense because I didn't mean it in a rude way I felt it was unfair that some classes didn't require as much work as others. But we've already established it is probably just differences in certain professors teaching style. I have not taken classes at HCC except two dual enrollment courses in high school that one of my high school teachers taught so idk how it is there. & the reason I did not apply to usf's program is because I'm missing statistics & I believe another class if you really wanted to know. My comment was in no way meant to offend anyone so since it offended you I apologize.

@ CassieAyana...No worries, its all good. Good luck to you. Hopefuly we all get in and we can have a cup of coffee together a laugh about this post.

Sounds like a plan. & with a 4.0 you're sure to get in the program! So relax & sip lemonade till your acceptance letter arrives lol

Thanks for the dates Delta! So yeah the first batch of students should definitely be getting letters next week! *Crosses fingers* Good luck everyone!

Actually it was FX who posted.. I just quoted his original post. But, I accept your accolades in case he is too bashful too. ;)

Don't sweat the prior posting. We're all under a lot of stress right now about this darn letter and its totally to be expected. We'll all have a laugh about all of this soon -- hopefully after our diploma is in our hands and we're new tadpole nurses!

Oh ok lol & yes I agree!

Anyone want to make a friendly bet? Losers have to buy the winner dinner :wacky: j/k.

Deltacrux, I will say Monday, 16 , but I'm broke I can't pay for dinner, LOL

I say the 14th :-0 I can buy you kit kats ;-)

I'm hoping its next week the latest! Do you guys know when we find out if we got the campus we wanted? Is it the same time we get the acceptance letter?

If I'm not mistaken, everyone has said it's after orientation,so somewhere around November maybe??

Monday it is! It was more rhetorical than practical. Heck; I'd be happy with everyone getting together for 'adult beverages' or the drink of your choice and appetizers at some restaurant and talking than I would dinner. We're all going to be together (maybe not at the same campus but in the same year cohort) for the next two years -- we might as well get to know each other, pool resources, and say 'Hello'!

I'm actually going with Saturday myself. Now, will I personally receive mine on Saturday due to my address issue, I don't know. But, I will go with Saturday since it is the median between the range of dates from prior years.

That's what I understand as well, Hallberry. Once you get your acceptance letter, you show up and go through orientation (they change your major at orientation from A.S. Nursing Basic Applicant to A.S. Nursing Basic) and then afterwards you receive in the mail your campus assignment. From what I also understand -- if you ask at orientation they will not tell you nor suggest what it might be since they don't know. From what little scuttlebutt I understand it is a ranking process just like the acceptance hokey-poky. They determine how many people have accepted and gone through orientation and then individuals are ranked based on preferred campus w/ weighting given to GPA, credits earned, etc al.

I hope this helps. I know its somewhat convoluted and "hocus pocus" like (hell the only way I knew that is by scouring all the HCC threads for like 4 years), but that is the process they have chosen to use.

Oh well that really stinks. I can only do the DM nw program. So I have to wait to find out if I got in, then wait till November to see if I get that campus. It is what it is. Thanks all!

I'm really hoping for nights/weekends myself. The drive into Dale Mabry twice a week plus clinicals is going to be a killer on gas though.

That's funny I was thinking the same thing,at least we will be one step closer to graduating.:-)
