Hello all,
I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.
What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.
Mine is on the lower end compared to most I've seenon here. I have a 3.57. I'm hoping they take other things into consideration & not strictly GPA like they claim. I already have a BA, my CPR card, a phlebotomy license...you know little things. I did submit them all in my packet lol you never know! I also think they should consider the differences in classes at the community college vs university level. Not to knock anyone who went to community college because hello here I am applying to one, (& there are people out there who don't go to college at all!) however two of my co-workers who are in the class graduating this December have both stated to me that they took their a&p courses at HCC & all they really did was color diagrams and easy work, it was no sweat. I took all of my pre reqs at USF and for my a&p classes we had 5 page papers every other week, discussion boards, projects...etc. The exams were very difficult. The professor would point to a bone, artery , or organ & we had to specify what it was & sometimes it's function. For examply he would point to a certain part of the intestines, we had to specify it was the duodenum and it is the first part of the small intestine & blah blah blah. This is the only class I have a C in as far as pre-reqs go. Of course this is unfair for us in this situation as compared to those who had to color for an A.
@CassieAyana. Maybe your friend was talking about her middle school AP classes.Coloring, are you serious? My API & APII classes were NO walk in the park, I worked my butt off to get that “A” as did many of my class-mates. I do have one question for you. Why are you not enrolling into the USF nursing program? Did you not get accepted? Is that why you’re now trying to get into the HCC nursing program? Either way, it’s not very nice of you to come on our HCC post and tell us how much harder things were for you at the University level compared to Community College, and that you should be ranked above the little HCC students that colored in class. I take offence to such a statement because I earned every bit of my 4.0 GPA, and I’m proud to be a student at HCC. USF is agreat University with what I consider to be a very good nursing program. HCC is also a great Community College with a GREAT nursing program, and I will put any HCC Nursing student up against any USF nursing student and guarantee we will be just as good if not better that any USF nursing student. That’s my 2 cents......
I think we should call the office and ask because it has taken forever to send the letters out. I'm applying to other schools that need an answer so I can save a spot with their program. I'm sure this goes with other people to.
Calling the office is not going to change anything or make the letters arrive any sooner. HCC does not care if you or me is applying to another program. HCC works on HCC's time frame. If you review the past 2 or 3 years Spring post you will see that they always get their letters between 9/12 & 9/15. If your not sure if you will make the cut at HCC then take the spot at the other progrm. Then if you get accepted to HCC you can withdraw from your other program.

Patience is a virtue and as nurses we need lots of it. I agree when it comes it comes,if we pester them they are just going to get annoyed and have less time to process everything.
This is true. Having to make a decision though is hard right now because I may/may not get accepted to HCC. I only have a 3.6 so i am borderline. I have until Monday for one school and a week for the other to make a decision with them. Just frustrating! Didn't mean anything toward ya'll! :) sorry!

We are all under a lot of stress,I've made plans to go out and have fun this weekend, between both my toddlers tantrums, chemistry and the unknown I am on edge. I hope we all get to celebrate soon.
Well like I said "...not to knock anyone who went to community college" meaning don't take offense because I didn't mean it in a rude way I felt it was unfair that some classes didn't require as much work as others. But we've already established it is probably just differences in certain professors teaching style. I have not taken classes at HCC except two dual enrollment courses in high school that one of my high school teachers taught so idk how it is there. & the reason I did not apply to usf's program is because I'm missing statistics & I believe another class if you really wanted to know. My comment was in no way meant to offend anyone so since it offended you I apologize.

Everyone just needs to relax and stop emailing and calling the Health Science dept. They must be sick and tired of people bugging them. Why the big hurry to get the letters? Not like we start the program next week, its still 5 month away. If i worked in the Health Science Dept I would tell eveyone the letters wil be maled in November to **** everyone off. Just relax, we will now soon.
