Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

Honestly it could affect my nursing entry and I'd rather not risk it,I have 30 credits I can use and I'd rather just use the money for usf. I'd rather pay cash here then usf which is much more expensive.

I hear you. I'm going to have to do some creative accounting on my part for USF (scholarships and grants), or have my employer pay for some of it. Either that, or I'm gonna be sitting on the side of the road w/ a sign that reads "Will work for tuition money"! :roflmao:

LOL yes I will be looking into some scholarships at Hcc and usf that are for nursing students. Any bit helps

One thing that might help (but I don't know if it applies), Native American tribes -- like the Cherokee Nation -- give pretty awesome grants and scholarships to nursing students. Some require working for the tribe after graduation, but most don't. All that is required is to be a tribAl citizen. If this applies, I can help with the citizenship process since I did it for myself recently.

Another avenue to look at would be Phi Theta Kappa scholarships. I've been a member for three years, and they have been great. With a 4.0, you would have no problem getting membership and I can give you the HCC advisor contact info.

Just some thoughts.. options are out there.

Thanks I appreciate it,I have a few letters they've sent me sitting around,I will definitely be looking into it. I've gotten other sxholrships before, but this year I didn't get any:-(

Hi, my name is Kristin and happy to see someone started a thread for spring 2014. A lot of great info on here. I also applied for the spring program. I attend southshore and chose that as my first choice.

Yup Yup! I'm getting pretty stoked too..

I think a bit after we get our letters we should have that "get together" we had discussed 'way back'. It might be an opportune time to discuss next steps and the like. :jester:

About 4 weeks left, can't believe it. I need classes to start Monday to keep myself busy. I'm taking a chem class Tuesday and Thursday in Southshore. Anyone else happen to be in this class, besides fx;-)
