Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Which reminds me... while I'm thinking about it. Who's local to Tampa? Who knows Tampa hotels?

I am looking to get a one-night hotel room somewhere as close to HCC Dale Mabry as possible for the first night of Orientation, which (going by the Spring 2012 thread) I will guesstimate to be Wed 11/7 and Thurs 11/8; as I'm in Orlando for the moment and don't want to drive to Tampa the first day, drive back to Orlando, and drive back to Tampa the next morning as that would make no sense to me. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been to Tampa in the last decade so due to my unfamiliarity with it I'm looking for something both DECENT and crazy CLOSE to HCC.

If anyone is willing to help, please write back here or PM me please. Thanx in advance. :)

:nono: Nooooo i can't wait any longer.
That is just awful! :( Here we all are getting excited for next week and now this. Boo. Boo I say.

Shauny2k3 you make some valid points re: needing time for appeals, etc. If this late September stuff holds up then I think that's detrimental for everyone.

I agree. I'm sure they're just giving themselves some leeway with the dates. That way they don't receive as many inquiries from applicants. Mailing the letters out early October wouldn't give much time to get everything done. There is quite a bit to do, finger printing, BLS cert, vaccines, supplies, health insurance, etc. I hope it's sooner than later!

It appears as though the folks last spring got lucky and found out a week early around 9/11. For Spring 2011 and 2010, they found out after 9/17. I think the week of 9/17 is a safe bet, but you never know.

@Gradius,

There are two hotels with decent Expedia ratings on Dale Mabry Hwy., very close to HCC-DM.

Holiday Inn Express Tampa - Stadium

Comfort Inn Raymond James.

These are a little farther, about 10-15 minutes:

Suburban on Hillsborough Ave.

Homestead Tampa - North Airport

Marriott Execustay

Holiday Inn Express on Anderson Road

Comfort Suites Tampa on W. Waters Ave.

Country Inn & Suites on W. Waters Ave.

Hampton Inn on W. Waters Ave.

Good luck!

Coming from the health insurance industry as a licensed agent for 16 years, its one of the necessary evils to have like car insurance. I just had surgery 12 weeks ago and my bills are at 100K already. I would be bankrupt without insurance. there are cheaper plans out there but you gotta look around.

That stinks! I have decided not to apply to PHCC for their 15th deadline... May rethink that one... lol

As it gets closer, I can give you some hotel names. Lived here all my life.

OMG so now possibly Oct, this isn't fair :bluecry1:. What is the best # is talk to someone in regards to the program?

My experience with HCC is that they have not always been forthcoming with any information that you need. So I'd say just wait it out. Like others mentioned previously, telling us early Oct may just be their protocol. I know we are all anxious, but at the end of the day it is what it is, their decision will be made and we will all be notified in due time. Let's all just try to relax and enjoy this little bit of time we have left before the real chaos starts! All of the things we have to do as required to be in the program are going to hit us all pretty hard and we'll probably look back on this day and wish that we didn't get so worked up and that we enjoyed our time "off" a little more.

PS: Sorry I got everyone worked up with the post about October...shauny2k3 does make very valid points and I'm sure they will notify us sooner than Oct :)

I received an email from the Health Science admissions office responding to my email asking roughly when we should expect to hear something.

Response:

Good morning Shaun,

Thank you for your email. The Health Sciences Committee will not be meeting for selection of applicants until the middle of this month, (September). Once the Committee meets letters will be mailed out to all applicants.
