Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

It has been a long four months since my application was turned in and I will get extremely stressed if we don't hear by next week! I would really like to prepare for the next phase by getting some things done and to start buying the items we need, but there is always that little voice in the background saying "What if you don't get in?" My husband tells me not to worry, but people make mistakes. My GPA is good, but you just never know and i can't help but worry some.

Being on this forum really helps with the waiting and makes it feel more real that we may be classmates in nursing school next semester.

I completely agree- being on this forum does help through all the waiting! I hope we will all be classmates starting in Spring. Everyone on this thread has been so nice and helpful to one another and I know with each other's help we can each make it through the program! Especially thanks to Gradius for pointing out what my options are regarding my HS transcript mix-up. If I get denied d/t "missing docs", I will definitely follow the steps to appeal the denial!

And I am thinking we'll hear something by the 14th...and the 15th is my birthday so it had better be good news!! LOL =P

Im already doing some of the things we need. I think that if u have a gpa over 3.5 you also can start doing. Im pretty sure that this time is gonna close really low like with 3.3 something like that.

The waiting in killing me.........I think it is harder now that we only have a few days. How does everyone else feel?
. Ummmm lots of typos in that message. Whoops, my nerves must really be getting to me.

Woot I appreciate the public kudos! :) Regardless of what happens I'm confident you WILL be joining us for Orientation in November... ^_^

I hope you post when you get accepted. I want to celebrate with you!!! :-).

What all is everyone doing to prepare for some of the things we need? Just curious...lol! I have no idea of any of the stuff we need, I'm so nervous I just want to get that letter in my hands!

Look for the post by RnNTraining because she posted a lot of info about orientation, supplies, books, etc. Some of her posts may be on the previous class threads, too.

I hope we find out this week. The criteria seems pretty straight forward. I'm not sure why the board/administrators have to meet to "decide"?? Does anyone know how many spots there are for the Spring semester?

My husband keeps saying the same thing. I am working on projects that I have neglected the last 2 years doing the pre reqs. I am praying a 3.71 is good enough for the daytime program.

Over the last couple of months i've made sure that all my required vaccines are up to date, and completed the PPD test and BLS course. My work schedule gets busy the end of the year, so I figured i'd get it all done early.

Regarding vaccines, if you go to a clinic like Walgreens Take Care Health, and use a regular full coverage insurance, they should all be covered at 100%. If you have a PPD done this way too, you'll likely find the PPD only costs a few dollars. I had to pay 100% of the cost for the PPD since i'm in my deductable, but at the insurance negotiated rate, it was only $4. Otherwise, they'll charge anywhere from $25-45 to have it done.

Would you happen to know where those of us that may not have health insurance can go and not pay an arm and a leg?
