I spoke to someone by email and she told me last week that the Committee met and she would be mailing out letters last week. Well I didn't receive a letter so I emailed her again last week and she told me we'd be notified within 2 weeks. So who knows at this point. I've pretty much given up on the program at HCC, I have orientation on Wednesday to start at Galen in November. Tired of waiting for HCC to get it together. Good luck to all!!

Since I know future nursing applicants will research this thread just as all of us on this thread have read the discussions from former applicants, I want to give some advice to anyone who may have been denied admission due to the college not having an "official" transcript on file. I was denied admission for this reason only, and the school deemed my transcript as "unofficial" because it "did not have a date on it". I recently obtained a copy of the transcript the school has on file for me and noticed that at the bottom in small print, there is in fact A DATE of graduation. Whoever reviewed my transcript and considered it to be unofficial completely overlooked the date which is present at the bottom. Unfortunately, I have already turned in my appeal prior to this finding. I emailed the school and am awaiting an email or phone call back. My advice to future applicants is to thoroughly investigate the denial, the reasons why and all the documentation involved. HCC is very unorganized in my opinion and I have fear that many applicants in the past have been wrongly denied admission to the program.

I heard the same, they said they will be mailing out letters next week so we should know something soon :) I'm an appealer and am crossing my fingers they let me in! I've been accepted to Galen's LPN program which starts Nov 5th just in case I don't get accepted by HCC. Their schedule is pretty brutal- evening session is Mon-Thur 5pm-10pm with occasional Friday or Saturday clinicals. I'm working FT M-F, 8-5 so I'm really looking forward to an acceptance letter from HCC, but if not I'm glad to have a Plan B :) Good luck to all the alternates/appealers out there!!

Yes College Algebra is offered at HCC online. I took it a year ago online and ended up with a B because I was taking other classes. If I would have had more time with it I would have made an A. The curriculum toward the end of the course I took started to get into Calculus so just be aware of that. But overall it was a fairly easy class and I'd recommend it online unless you're not strong with math- then I'd recommend taking it on campus. Good luck to you!

Thank you Gradius, I appreciate your concern and looking out for me. My intention is to get only my LPN at Galen then transfer to HCC and do the bridge program to RN. I will not officially enroll with Galen until the end of October, and by then I will know if my appeal is accepted for HCC and of course, HCC will be my first choice. I have been pursuing my nursing goal for too many years now and I am running out of time to make this happen. This is a personal choice, one I have thought through carefully. Ptec is suspending their evening LPN program because their evening program instructor is retiring. I've also heard from students at Ptec that their evening program (especially the online portion) is poorly organized and they feel they are not getting the quality education or training they need. Erwin Tech was another option for me however their next start date is not until August or September 2013. You do make vaild points, however. Galen is very costly. That is about their only downfall pertaining to the LPN program. I would not by any means consider them for my ADN due to reasons stated earlier on this thread. Another possibility I am considering is Ridge Career Center in Winter Haven. Their LPN program starts January 2013 and they are part of the Polk County Public School system so their tuition is much more reasonable (I would estimate between 6k-7k), however their classes start at 4:15 and I work in Tampa so I am not confident their schedule would work with mine unfortunately.

Also just to add, I've learned the hard way that USF does not accept HCC's science courses because at HCC they are taken on the 1000-level rather than USF's 2000-level. So I'll be re-taking A&P 1/2 as well as Micro but I'm sure there are worse things...

Thank you both for the information. I am actually only doing LPN at Galen due to my daytime work schedule then plan on doing RN bridge at HCC then BSN at USF. I appreciate your responses and heads up, this site and the positive feedback I've been getting from the nursing community is awesome!

Hey future nurses! I figured it would be good to start a topic for anyone applying for the November start of the LPN program at Galen in Tampa. :) I am taking the evening classes and will be taking the Admissions Test in two weeks. Anyone else out there joining me or graduated from Galen and have any good tips and advice? I took the tour today and was blown away by their simulation labs...I am soooo very excited to start and get this show on the road!! I've been pursuing my dream to become a nurse for over two years now and am tired of the waiting lists, etc...from other area schools. I currently work FT during the day and kept hitting roadblocks trying to go the straight ADN route to become a RN so now I've decided to do LPN and then the ADN program. My ultimate goal is to become a ARNP but that will come with time. I'm just ready to get started and knock out the basics and get my hands dirty!

Thank you for the information, I will look into that! If my appeal is not accepted I am planning on applying for Fall-13 start. With a 3.57 GPA I think I will just make it but if not, LPN route is a good plan B. :)

I noticed a couple of you that applied to HCC also applied to SPC nursing. I am considering doing that but was wondering if you could let me know how their process goes. Is it similar to HCC? I see on their website that they accept the 2000-level A&P 1 and 2 but I took them at HCC at the 1000-level. Are those transferrable? Any insight anyone could provide will be greatly appreciated :)

Plant City Campus is located off of Park Road in Plant City. The campus is small and easy to maneuver through. When you exit from I-4 go left onto Park Rd at the light then follow Park Rd for about 3/4 of a mile. Take a left onto Cherry Street (stop light) then make a left into HCC's first parking lot entrance, there will be a parking lot directly in front of you and that's where you park for student services and there's a sign on the building you go into. Very easy to find.

Gradius, I feel your pain my friend! Good luck with your appeal. Keep us posted on how it turns out. I turned in my appeal yesterday and the Advisor told me I should hear something by mid-October. She told me that while my reasons are valid and factual and follow the guidelines for reasons to appeal, she was not optimistic about the appeal being sustained simply because and I quote "Health Sciences marches to the beat of their own drum, they will more than likely determine this to be their error, however, you are responsible for your own records and this is their way of weeding people out". I was stunned. Anyway, fingers crossed for both of us. If you have the ability to do an accelerated BSN program, I would highly advise you do that. Many hospitals are in the process of requiring a BSN for their RN's and are simply not hiring as many with only Associate's degrees. Just a piece of advice to you...it will cost you more time and money in the long run if you go the AS-RN to BSN route rather than doing BSN-RN in the first shot.

From what I've read from other posts, you have to go to the Ybor campus to get fingerprinted unless something changed from last semester to this semester.
