Hello all,
I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

I received an email from the Health Science admissions office responding to my email asking roughly when we should expect to hear something.Response:
Good morning Shaun,
Thank you for your email. The Health Sciences Committee will not be meeting for selection of applicants until the middle of this month, (September). Once the Committee meets letters will be mailed out to all applicants.

Well then the committee will meet soon.. Our acceptance or denial is in their hands. I know I have some big home projects that I am working on this month and won't have time for it once January hits.. lol
I hope end of September/beginning of October is not true so I emailed someone at Southshore regarding when the letters would be sent out and this is a piece from the email:[COLOR=#1f497d]You will find out around the middle of September whether or not you were accepted. If so, you will start the Nursing Program in Spring 2013.
Then that would follow suit with last years time frame. No matter what, we will know in the next 3-4 weeks :)
I think that the best thing to do is remain busy. once our GPA is above 3.5 I think we can start preparing. I did my CPR at Town and Country Hosp. the cost was $40 and the duration was 10:00 - 12:30 on saturday. at least that is one thing off the list.
Is there a list of things we need to get completed before school would start. I am hopeful that my 3.7 gpa makes the cut. I might as well start getting everything else put together.

The nursing handbook lists the requirements for the items needed like a stethoscope, watch with a second hand, pen light and a pair of bandage scissors. The Uniform Policy will explain exactly what colors are acceptable for the scrubs, shoes, and jackets. Shoes have to be closed toe and heel white leather or leather-like. RNnTraining recommended Timberland Pro Renovas because of their comfort. There are even rules about how many rings you can wear or other jewelry.
I've been waiting for acceptance before I buy any of the items we need, although I will probably start my immunizations and get titers for chicken pox done next week and sign up for the CPR class at HCC ($25). It's not too early to start trying on scrubs and shoes to see what brand you like best, either!

Last semester the lowest pre-requisite GPA accepted was 3.5 including alternates. Someone said the first acceptances had a cutoff of 3.71 or 3.70, then the rest of the seats were alternates. I'm sure you will get in on your GPA. Even if you get an alternate, the chances are good someone will not accept their seat!
Inspired by KKJA8855's earlier comment of...
"Let's all just try to relax and enjoy this little bit of time we have left before the real chaos starts!"
Random advance-notice OT question for all... would anyone be down for some leisure activities in one of the weeks following Orientation?
By leisure of course I mean as I've mentioned here more than once, I live in Orlando at the moment and we might not have time for leisure come January. Anyway I have two jobs ATM. Guess who one of them is for?
For example:
La Nouba | Orlando show at Walt Disney World Resort | Cirque du Soleil
That is one of several possible ideas.
Just curious. TIA for any interest.

I would be interested in getting together after orientation. Just curious Gradius, are you planning on moving to the Tampa area or do you plan on commuting?
