Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Hi everyone,

I am so glad I found this thread! I have completed all my prerequisites at the Dale Mabry campus and ended up with a 3.78 GPA. I was originally hoping for DM nights/weekends so I could continue working, but now I am on the fence...not sure that I would be able to work full-time and complete the program if I am accepted! I live in New Tampa, so it looks like the Plant City campus is actually almost the same distance from me as DM is...if anyone else is planning on working while in the program I would love to hear your thoughts on making it work. Good luck to all, keeping my fingers crossed until September!!!

YAY! My documents are in Webadvisor! Still need my pre-reqs, HCC application, and HS transcript. I know they have them as I did all my pre-reqs at HCC so Whoot Hoot!

and Hiya nmd813!

Hi nmd813! I also applied to DM night/weekends (pre-req GPA 3.86). I won't be working during the program, but will have a 6 month old, 3 year old and 5 year old at the beginning. I know many people work through the program though, so it's definitely possible!

I live in New Tampa, too :) I did put my campus choice as DM on my application, but I think I may want to go to Plant City as well.

I am also planning on working through the program also. I know it's going to be hard, but I am sure that we can do it!

kvil713 and nmd813, please vote on the Page 1 poll when you can! :)

Welcome to our thread nmd813! I plan on working full time while in the program and I think it's possible if you want it badly enough but will definitely present a challenge trying to find the time to study between classes and clinicals. If you have the option to not have to work full-time, I'd say take it! I currently work for a healthcare management company and they have agreed to pay my tuition and guarantee me a job as soon as I receive my RN license so working full-time while in the program is about my only option. But it's definitely possible. Good luck to all of you who are planning to work full-time, I am glad to see there are others just as crazy as I am to attempt it! :)

i applied for the program at hcc; however, planning on continuing education at usf. does anyone take classes for the nursing program that required by usf ? if so, could you please recommend proffesors? thanks!

I am currently taking the nutrition class at HCC online. It's pretty straight forward, so I would reccomend the online format. SPC offers the DEP class online, so I'm planning on taking it through them. I'm undecided if I want to take the Stats class online or in the classroom. SPC offers it online, but if I take it in the classroom, I will take it at HCC DM. I don't believe this forum will allow us to communicate specific instructors/names, so I didn't include them. I believe the USF BSN bridge program is mostly online, so it's helpful to get accustomed to online classes now.

i plan on doing usf's bridge program as well. i have taken human nutrition, developmental psychology and chemistry for health sciences/lab. the only one i have left to take is statistics, which i will likely take during one of the upcoming semesters (since the nursing program is only 10 credit hours). as far as the names of professors, i'll have to send them in a personal message, they're not allowed to be posted directly to the forum.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys! I'm glad to know others are in similar positions. KKJA8855, it's great that your employer is so supportive!

Wantobnurse - I also took the nutrition class online through HCC and found it to be pretty easy. Unfortunately I don't remember who the instructor was, but like Jhart13 said it's pretty straightforward and I really liked the flexibility with the online setup.
