I am an alternate for HCC Dale Mabry campus. I am not yet in the program. This is my third time as an alternate, so; I don't want to be too optimistic. I found out that starting last week the school was going to be notifying alternates if they have a spring 2009 seat. I am wondering if anyone has heard that they are in yet. I am very nervous, and I would appreciate any information. Thank you
NewGoalRN,
Thank you for your response and offer. I am posting the grades below. I cut and pasted the details directly from Hawknet. I hope you see this before tomorrow morning because I am planning to meet with a counselor then and God knows I need all the ammo I can throw at them!
Thanks again!

Hi Fourhundred...
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get in
I did calculate your gpa, and i come up with a 3.4 with 21 credits. I'm not sure why they say 22 credits and a different gpa, are those the only courses you took at HCC?
I do think that had miscalculated mine though...i had posted that it was a 3.45, but it was a 3.6, I was adding in an extra credit. I just didn't want you to feel bad that yours was so close.
Let us know what they say...your GPA is pretty high, so I would imagine it was close. I also may have calculated yours wrong...but I just wanted to give you what I had found.

Fourhundred27, I computed your program gpa at 3.428 based on 72pts / 21credits. you have amazing grades, especially in your sciences. It is quite stunning to see what 1 C can do to one gpa. I would still have the appointment. I still can't believe that it would have gotten so competitive that even 3.4s doin't merit acceptance or at least alt status.
The last 2 semesters I was told tha the floor gpa was around 3.19 or 3.2. I am astounded that you didtn't get in.
when you meet with the advisor tomorrow, make sure to ask her what was the floor gpa for this Fall class, this past Spring and last Fall.
Good luck.
Worse case scenario, see if you can take sociology over at St Pete or another community collge. That is the class that is killing you.
I was just talking to my sis, there is still hope as some people will not accept due to various reasons ie financial, moving, changed mind etc. Just think positive. I can't believe how high the gpas are now.
I am also thinking that if it were so close that sometimes they start to look to see who have taken other gen. ed requirements i.e eng2, intro to computers, psych or and other nursing co-reqs such as nutritionor dev psych. Have you taken any other gen ed requirement courses?
I am sending postive thoughts your way.
Are you sure that your pre req program gpa is 3.5. It seems that the cut off was around 3.42-3.4. I believe someone got accepted at 3.47. ARe you just calculating your gpa on the 21 program credits and not other classes. Again, I can't believe that they are not accepting 3.5 gpas for the program.

Hi Danielle,
Thanks for your support! I went to meet w/ a counselor at Plant City yesterday and apparently she was not privy to the cutoff gpa as of yet. So i wrote Dale Mabry and was told the gpa cutoff was 3.429. I am so confused about what to do now. It is just as hard getting into an LPN program. I worked so hard to keep my grades up and the only thing bringing it down is a C that I got in sociology years ago after high school. I am so desperate that now I am looking into online LPN or RN courses. Do you know if any of these are legitimate? Man, this totally bites!
Here's one possible thing you could do, retake sociology. Correct me if I'm wrong (anyone?) but I'm pretty sure if you retake it and make an A, they would average the two together and result in a B which would up your GPA. Again, if it works differently, please let me know! I'm not sure if it would have to be at HCC, but I took it online through USF and it was an easy A. It would push off when you can apply, but it may be worth it! It sounds like you really want to be a nurse, so I'm sure it will happen someday for you...especially since you were so close! There's also the possibility that someone may not want to go to HCC and you may get a spot after all...THINK POSITIVE!
Danielle
FYI this forum has been a God-send. I totally needed this support! You all have been sincerely helpful and its made a difference in my mood.
Danielle, that was an idea I had too (retake sociology). But I was told that you can't retake a course if you got a C in it. Is that right? I will also call the school and try to find out.

Fourhundre, if you post your grades for the classes above, we can compute your gpa for you. Also, I've called the nursing dept before for the cutoff gpa for canidates for that semester and they have always told me. Usually, it was around 3.18-3.2 for the last 2 semesters.
