Is anyone else planning on applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program? I know it is really early, but I am just too excited. I want other people to share my excitement with!! :)
If anyone needs a TEAS study book, I got the ATI TEAS Secrets from Barnes & Noble and it is a really good book. The publisher is Mometrix. It has a study guide video as well and online resources. I paid $45 for it brand new, I will sell it for $15 if anyone is interested. PM me :) It is in great condition, no writing or anything in it.
I loved the Mometrix study guide. It was the only one that I used before I took the test and I secured an 88%. The reading section is very straight forward. The math sections are WAY trickier than on the actual test but really helps you prepare. The science portion you should study along side of your A&PI-II notes. And the English section you should grab some note cards for. But seconded. I loved that study guide.
Science portion of the test will always be the hardest. Study complimentary strands of DNA, eukaryotes and prokaryotes, meiosis and mitosis, and the endocrine systems + products and you should be in really good shape.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am using the Mometrix study guide as well. Hopefully I will succeed like you did!
The content of the program is a lot, and difficulty is relative. It has consume alot of my time, but I wouldn't say for me it was extremely difficult. Teachers have the capability of making it better or worse though. I do recommend while in class, try and do the best on exams, so when you go to take the HESI end of semester exams, you don't need any points or at least very little, takes alot of the stress out.
Most semesters are 2 days of lecture and 1 day of clinicals, except when you have to take Mental Health which is the 2nd semester, but it is a shorter class. During that time you have 2 to 3 days lectures and two clinical days.
When I came in English II was a requirement for acceptance, not sure if it still is. I am missing some of the basics classes like nutrition and stats. The classes can be finished while in the concurrent program, after the ASN.
How has the program been for you? About how many days of the week do you have to go to school or clinicals? I have already done a lot of the specific electives like developmental psyc and human nutrition as well as English II. I see we are supposed to be taking those during the program, so I assume I will just not have to take those classes while everyone else is? I want to do the USF concurrent program, so it would help if I could take less classes during the term to have more time for the USF class.
As soon as we started getting acceptance letters, we created a global HCC Nursing FB group. People were able to trade campuses and other information, as it was an option then. Then we also created a Class FB group, but that one has to be only for the class peers as class information will probably be shared and nobody wants to violate confidentiality agreements that have to be signed. And post the links here so people can join. Whoever does it make sure and filter people, and make sure they were accepted into the program.
One other important thing that comes to mind. Everyone will be in a pink cloud in the beginning and getting along well. Please, please, please, make sure that, a good attitude remains during the whole program. Leave gossip out of study groups. Things WILL get stressful, and you only have each other to get through. Every class has the one or two that do extremely well, don't hate, see what they are doing, but dont use them only when help is needed, not fair and people can see through it. Encourage and help the ones that are not doing well, do NOT join in their anxiety, it is contagious. Don't judge, every one is fighting their own battles we don't know about, even the annoying ones :). And, never ever, refuse a helping hand, even if you don't agree with how they study, you never know when you might need to use the same tools.
Thanks for all of the great advice Pricanlady!
Update on my TEAS! I just took it and passed with an 80.7%. The grades I got on each subject are
Reading- 89.4%
Math- 93.8% (I am obsessed with math lol)
Science- 66%
English Language Usage- 75%
SCIENCE WAS MUCH HARDER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE! I recommend that you do well in the other subjects to compensate for the science because it was so HARD. I probably could have studied better, but I basically just took the practice tests without reading the book.
Now im off to turn in my app at the DM campus
Not only gossip is toxic, but it will ALWAYS, make it to the instructors ears. People will do desperate things in desperate times. Keep in mind, you will be asking those same instructors for recommendation letters in your last semester.
What wonderful advice, pricanlady. As they say, "comparison is the thief of joy" and it would be a lie if I were to say I don'tcompare myself to others--because I do. >.

congrats!! I also thought the science was a little harder than anticipated, but hey! Its finally out of the way
You're welcome. All I ask is that all of you pay it forward to the people coming after you. Never forget where you come from and lend a helping hand. Its what we future nurses do. :)

That's a great score!! I'm also studying from the ATI secrets book by mometrix. Were the practice tests in the book similar to the actual test? And how did your practice test scores compare to your actual score?
