Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014

Published

Hello everyone,

So my dream since I can remember has been to become a nurse; however, it seems as if it will never happen. I recently finished my pre-requisite courses to apply to the fall semester of the HCC nursing program. While I did not get any C's I made mostly B's :blink:earning A's in two classes and one lab. I realize this is not good enough since it puts my GPA at around a 3.38. Since I did not fail any of my classes, I don't believe I will be able to retake them. Is there any possible way to retake them? Or any way to increase my GPA since they mainly look at the pre-requisite courses? If not, what other options do I have for becoming a nurse? If anyone is out there who could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. I will submit my application regardless but I don't have any high hopes of getting accepted, if there is anyway to increase my chances I would be so grateful to find out!

You hear nothing from them unless you send a SASP which they'll send back to you merely to confirm that they've received your materials. 3 months of silence until you get a letter.

So basically just send another copy with application as back up? I really hope u get accepted into the fall :(.... if not maybe u can join us 2015 spring.. thatwould be awesome. ... hey do u know anything about usf requirements. Like if I have my ASN from hcc and I took eng 1 and 2 already. Can I just apply to the BSN program with nothing else needed except foreign language? Because I know foreign language is required for graduation of bachelor's

I'm currently at USF! You actually don't need a foreign language for a Bachelor's of Science. If you were receiving a degree in the Arts, you'd be required to take a foreign language for your exit requirement. If you're a current RN (graduate from HCC and pass the NCLEX), you can apply to their RN to BSN program. You will have to take the prerequisite courses required for the BSN that aren't required for HCC, such as Nutrition, Human Life Cycle, and any BSC or CHM course of your choice besides A&P, etc. Most of the required courses coincide with HCC's, so this won't take long for you. Usually it can be done in a semester. Hope this helps! :)

Thank u nikkianna6, the information is helpful. I think this is y my adviser at hcc told me to get an AA degree also, because it includes most of that. Only thing u didnt mention was stats2023 and there is like 2 hanities classes and 2 history classes required for my AA. If I dont need any of that and I only need what u posted above I would rather go ahead and take chemistry woth lab this fall and take nutrition and health and basic life... all this fall. I may take the foreign language just to learn it because it would look could that im bilingual on a job application. I have english comp 1 and 2 already, these were the only othr requirements I seen on the website for usf. Did you know if summer at usf is apart of the RN-BSN program and considered a semester? The length says its a 5 semester course. I have ben in school going on 4 years now. I feel like im so far from where I want to be.

What I did originally for Spring 2013 was send my transcripts in electronically AND submit hard copies with my application just to be SUPER thorough. They wound up sending me the hard copies back though for the ones they didn't have electronically already with a note that basically said "HCC has already received these trasncripts."

And thank you for the well-wishes, but I'm in the middle of a non-Nursing Masters right now-- the soonest I can graduate from that will be May 2015 but possibly August of that year. So Fall 2015 is the soonest I could start HCC should I apply and get accepted. It's a long ways away but I finished the Nursing prereqs so I feel like I wasted all that time and money if I don't go on and get at least an ASN, ya know? :) Even if I will have a non-Nursing Masters in something else...

Oh and I know nothing of USF or its requirements-- I actually live 90 minutes away from Tampa right now.

Wow thats crazy, but I completely understand your wishes to continue on. I hope your masters goes well.. and u will definitely have the upper hand with ur masters. What are u studying?

Im hoping usf advisor responds soon. Last time they took over a week to email me back. I figure I would ask round and see here I get my answer from first

Information Security. HCC claims to not consider other degrees in admission, however. If circumstances were different I'd do an ABSN as I have a BA already from 2003, however the Night program is the only way I can do Nursing without quitting my current job which is too good to give up, let's just say. Lots of factors for me at play!

Wow yes lools like u have many choices to choose from. But all in all looks like a promising future. Good luck and stay strong!

Also waiting for admissions letter for Fall 2014. I think I have like a 3.5 GPA in prereqs. Currently taking Brit Lit and Enc 2 co-requisites. *fingers crossed*

I hope to transfer to USF. I am currently taking statistics, developmental psychology, and a humanities for the pre-requisites. Hopefully I am saving myself a semester if everything goes well.

Yea i had to look up on google what classes extra is needed because usf was no help. I emailed them 4 times and they didnt answer any of my questions. It was like a copy and paste. The advisor also told me a foreign language wasnt needed. But in tge state of florida any bachelor's degree requires a foreign language before graduation. Not sure if its every bachelor's degree. But the PDF load packet from usf said it was required before graduation. Aside from the ASN requirement at HCC. Stats2023, hun 2201, chm 1032 with lab

6 credits from english is also required. 6 credit hours from communication, 3 from fine arts, 6 from humanities, 3 from cultural diversity context, and 3 to 4 from natural science of the list they provided. It was like organic chem, physics, chem and sociology etc all that along with ur ASN. And the foreign language. I wanted to share this because I looked everywhere for the specific university and state mandated educational fundamentals required.

This is y my advisor at HCC told me to get my A.A. degree on top of my ASN because on top of the above listed only 2 more classes and ur A.A. would be achieved. So might as well graduate with 2 degrees.

The info above is what I read from usf.

I attatched a screen shot of the PDF file. You can google > University of south florida education fundamentals for nursing 2014

Thats should allow you to see different options
