Have the 12 found out and been confirmed yet by HCC and BH?

We think so, but the communication between WIA, HCC and BH is dysfunctional at best. There are a lot of unanswered questions for the people that were chosen and I don't think anything has been 100% finalized yet. Personally I'm glad I don't have to deal with it.

From what I understand, the hospital already chose the 12 people. Now, WIA has to make sure they qualify for funding based on their criteria. Once that's done, the hospital will officially contact them.

Lee, dysfunctional is a much more pleasant word that I can possibly use about that whole situation!! I have serious doubts if I could describe the thing without using the word cluster!

However, yesterday, Connie and I went to the WIA office to do the TABE test (pretty much an idiot test, it was seriously easy!). There was supposed to be a third but they didn't join us and I don't know who it was. We were told that all of our paperwork was complete, the test was the final piece of the puzzle, and we will receive the funds. I have not heard word one from the hospital, regardless of 4 phone messages left, so I don't know about that bit yet.

As for WIA alone, you must be within 2 years of completing your degree, so you won't be able to qualify for funds until you start your nursing program. You must also have your acceptance in hand before you can even begin. They have not yet released the funds for anyone for this "year" (their fiscal year is July-June), but the suggestion I received when I asked for those that haven't been chosen for "the 12" was to call every week to see if funds have been released yet, then pounce when they do.

As for stethoscopes, I got an ADC Adscope. It had great reviews, a MA girlfriend of mine said it sounds great, and was around $30. Litmann is high-end and pricey, but worth it if you have the funds.

I am applying for fall 2013 and was wondering how you calculated your GPA's? I have completed all my pre-req's and some generals. This is what I have so far:

Pre-Req's

a. ENC 1101 Freshman English 1 3cr: B

b. BCS 1085 Human Anatomy & Physiology 1 3cr: A

c. BSC 1085L Human Anatomy & Physiology Lab 1cr: A

d. BSC 1086 Human Anatomy & Physiology II 3cr: A

e. BSC 1086L Human Anatomy & Physiology Lab II 1cr: B

f. MAC1105 College Algebra 3cr: B

g. SYG 2000 Introduction to Sociology 3cr.: A

h. MCB 1000 Microbiology 3cr: A

i. MCB 1000L Microbiology Lab 1cr: A

Other Courses:

ENC1102: A

HUN2201: A

REL2300: A

AMH1010: B

I am not sure if they substitute the English grades if you took a higher English or maybe that's just math. Someone told me the GPA cutoff was 3.7 so I am not sure if I will even make it in : ( I am super anxious about it all and was hoping for some input from people who got in recently. Any info helps and I really appreciate it.

That comes to a 3.6666666. They will not sub Enc II for Enc I since you need both; but keep in mind that there is less competitive Gpa standards in Spring, and that folks this sem were as low as 3.5 for alternates. Good luck.

As Brandee stated, 3.71 isn't the "final" cut-off. I'm actually not even sure what it was. But 3.5s are usually the norm for being accepted in (after alternates have been contacted and people have been shifted around). For your GPA, I came up with a 3.52. I had a 3.6666 with a B in MAC1105 and Bs in both AP1 lecture and lab. Don't be discouraged. :-)

They have the same as you Katie, 2 3-credit and 1 1-credit Bs, rest As, so it'd be the same as yours; unless i missed something. If that's the case, I blame it on Tdap!! Lol.

Ah crap! I had an extra B in there somewhere lol. I can't blame mine on tdap! Haha I'll have to see if I can delete that so they don't get confused :-)

Did anybody get the books already? I got the package offered by HCC Library but I only got 11 items out of 13 showing in the hand-out given at orientation. I'm just wondering if all packages come with 11 items or I'm missing the two.

Where did you get the package at? I was told they were not at the bookstores yet and to check back some time next week.

If you did get the package and paid the full price you should have received everything on that list. Keep in mind a few of those books are digital so it might just be a code inside one of the actual books.

That's what I though and I wanted to make sure someone else got the same books I did. They recieved the packages two days ago at the dale mabry campus but I'm not sure about the others campuses. As soon as you get them let me know what you got.
