Hillsborough Community College Fall 2010

Published

hello! i just joined this lovely and informative site after lurking for a few weeks. i'm planning to apply for the program after this fall semester. (need to finish a&pII and college algebra).

who else?! :)

edit: can someone walk me through the application process? i know it's pretty easy, but i like knowing 100%! i'm not sure if an adviser would help me much. i know you need high school transcripts, an hcc application and a nursing application. then you just gather all the papers (including money?) in like a.... manila envelope and mail away? or can you electronically send your high school transcripts to them? thank you.

I only put Plant City night program. And it was my understanding you got what you put in for. I am hoping I understood everyone in the handbook correctly. We will wait and see! Where do you work right now?

Yay! Seems like there are three of us night and weekenders on her (the original poster ceedee said Plant City too...I think). I work for Moffitt :)

So do I. What department do you work in and what is your position. I am the MA for Dr. Gillies in Imaging/Radiology.

campus selection was based on gpa. the higher then you were given your first choice and then down from there.

I'm at southshore

What a coincidence! I work as a Regulatory Specialist at M2Gen (the new McKinley building) :)

i saw oncology as what you would like to go into so i figured you might work here, especially when you said your work was paying for it (ahead of time) sounded like moffitt!

You were right :) Moffitt is an awesome organization to work for!

Nickdost... you have convinced me to get the Clinical Calculations book! Math IS my weakness. I plan to buy it from Amazon though. Did you purchase the Potter & Perry book from Barnes as well? And all this comes in the bundle you mentioned earlier?

Thanks to everyone for advice, updates, and etc! I could use whatever tips from others since I do not know anyone personally who is in/going into nursing school except the people on this board :)

Hey there, I'm in NP1 this spring2010 - Just wanted to congratulate you guys!

Practice the Med Calculations Chapter 1-8 (just before IVs). You dont get lectured on this, you just get tested on the math the 3rd week of school. I did all the questions from chapter 1-8 and I got all the questions correct. :)

I bought the KIT because it ended up cheaper than buying the books individually (even at used prices). I priced out the textbooks (online/BooksnMore/craigslist)- I was only going to save $40 or so. So I figured, might as well get new ones & end up getting study guides & clinical companions. You will use these books until NP4. Except for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Book - evolve forgot to add that to the kit.

For those concerned about the latest versions of the books (it doesnt really matter). You will definitely need: Fundamentals of Nursing-Perry & Potter, Med Surg-Lewis, Med Calc, Psych Nursing-Townsend. Thats about it for assigned reading - everything else is supplemental. Theres a Nursing Skills-Mosby CD in the kit, but you can also read about those in the textbook or youtube it.

What matters is you understand the context/material. You should really get books on NCLEX Prep Style Questions! Focus on Fundamentals & Med-Surg.

Thank you Skad!!! This is very helpful. How soon in advance did you start studying your med calculations?

Thanks skad33! That is very helpful!

If you ever want to study I am good in math plus it might be helpful to have a study buddy!

Crynholder, i'm sure I'll be taking you up on that offer. We'll both be at the Plant City Campus and both work for Moffitt so we'll be great study buddies :)
