hello! i just joined this lovely and informative site after lurking for a few weeks. i'm planning to apply for the program after this fall semester. (need to finish a&pII and college algebra).

edit: can someone walk me through the application process? i know it's pretty easy, but i like knowing 100%! i'm not sure if an adviser would help me much. i know you need high school transcripts, an hcc application and a nursing application. then you just gather all the papers (including money?) in like a.... manila envelope and mail away? or can you electronically send your high school transcripts to them? thank you.
hey guys. Just wanted to update you. I spoke with a counselor today and the cut off gpa was a 3.42. They had calculated my gpa as a 3.38. We both recalculated together, and I am still ending up with a 3.55. I sent in my appeal and still accepted my alt position.
could you guys just double check for me please!!

it'll be out of 18 credits since I got a "s" for english. I will not hear anything until April though. I really hope they get it figured out!
For the calc test you are allowed to use a BASIC calculator (add, subtract, multiply, divide, square root), our professor provided us with calculators in NP 1. In NP 2 we can use our own, but they have to be basic ones as well.
For the clinical calculations book, I worked out of version 5 for both my NP 1 and NP 2 tests (they are on version 6 now), and I passed them both. There are minor differences that did not interfere with my test grade in any way. I purchased the older edition on ebay for like 5 bucks because the newer one came in the box. Honestly, I have not even opened the newer one yet. The older edition has been working fine.
Yes, Squeen...I get a 3.56 (rounding). You are IN!! It is SO messed up that they could make such a mistake. Anyway...look forward to seeing you on June 15th and 16th!!
Thanks 2011nurse! I didn't even consider the older edition. I saw amazon has plenty of the 5th edition for cheap. Now I won't feel bad buying the bundle haha.

Didn't you mention you're at usf right now? my brother was saying hcc probably picks hcc students first then considers everyone else, which could explain why they carelessly messed up your GPA. But who knows...
well actually they don't know I am at USF lol! I have not officially gone through the transient student paperwork yet, shhhhhh! (I was going to if I didn't get accepted or just withdraw from USF). Trust me, I would argue until I was blue in the face over me getting in!

Hi SQUEEN, how r you? Sorry i have not called...been tooooo depressed to function plus was out of town with my boys. I just came from the my advising session at HCC DM and my GPA was calculated to be 3.57 not 3.19 as the letter stated. So i guess someone messed up the first time. Happy to hear that things are going well for you too. Hopefully we will both be in for the Fall. By the way they did use my higer math grade. For the rest of you congrats again...hope you are getting on top of the reading and preparing as much as you can. thanks again guys for all your support.
yay!!! I am so happy for you. I was hoping you got good news as I did. The advisor said they leave open a certain number of spots for calculation errors, so I will be counting down the days until April! They had 600 applicants this time, so I'm sure some of them got a little tired after looking at so many apps. Try to relax while waiting for your letter!!
Just wanted to warn you all of a situation that occurred with me in dealing with "Edge Information" (the background check company that HCC uses). If you saw my previous post, I initially had a few problems getting my information submitted. I was concerned that I had been charged more than once, so I called to confirm that they had received my submission and had only been charged one time. They assured me that all was well, and that I had ONLY been charged once, for $63.00. Yesterday, I was going through my checking/debit account and lo and behold....I saw that I had been charged THREE TIMES!!! I called them back, and they offered to have accounting "cut me a check" for a refund... I was not at all impressed by how they attempted to handle this. I told them that they need to refund the money directly to my account, etc...they are checking to see if that can be done...but they don't think that is possible...etc...
Anyway...just make sure you check your accounts. This could be an isolated incident, but just in case, double check it.
