Hillsborough Community College Fall 2010

Published

hello! i just joined this lovely and informative site after lurking for a few weeks. i'm planning to apply for the program after this fall semester. (need to finish a&pII and college algebra).

who else?! :)

edit: can someone walk me through the application process? i know it's pretty easy, but i like knowing 100%! i'm not sure if an adviser would help me much. i know you need high school transcripts, an hcc application and a nursing application. then you just gather all the papers (including money?) in like a.... manila envelope and mail away? or can you electronically send your high school transcripts to them? thank you.

Nick you inspire me *sigh* I need to get on the ball ASAP!!! Thanks for the update though :)

Do you think it would be scary to mail it in? Eh...on second though I'm gonna go with yes. I'll have to drop it off on Monday or Tuesday after 5.

Thanks, Tebyrd...

YES..if you can minimize the risk of the mail, I definitely would!! Just not worth taking the chance...

If anyone finds a way to get their hands on a syllabus that would be AWESOME!! Of course, it will vary by instructor but it would give us a better idea of where to begin!!

I am ALL ABOUT getting a jumpstart if possible!! : )

if you send it certified mail you won't have a problem. The post office sends a receipt of delivery that was signed by a person at the sent address.

good to hear nickdost that your payment wasn't duplicated! I still have yet to call...I will today hopefully.

I turned in my acceptance letter in yesterday as well. I was scared someone was just going to stick their hand in the dropbox and take my envelope out! :(

does anyone know what kind of math we should brush up on?

hey, tebyrd. If you don't mindme asking what was your cumulative gpa? I'm trying to keep the faith that I'm a high alternate. I'm going to make an appointment when I get back to try and get some info out of them. Thanks!

Hey Squeen! I had a 3.57 using the courses needed for entry. Is that what you were asking? My cumulative GPA at HCC alone was a 3.6 but that may not be helpful since two of my other courses came from the university where I got my Bachelor's.

Certified mail sounds like a viable option, thank Squeen :)

well thank you very much. I hate being out of town now and not being able to meet with anyone until next week! Hope you all are doing well. It sounds like they are trying to squeeze every penny out of you with acceptance fees and background checks! I thought that would be included with the app fee.

I'm just hanging in there, and hoping someone up there has something planned for me. I think you all will make excellent nurses with your brains and dedication!

I got a copy of my background check already, via e-mail...so THAT is done!! Now...just to decide when/where to take CPR. I know HCC offers it, but the times don't work for me.

I bought the book called "Clinical Calculations" upon suggestion by a person in the program currently. It teaches all of the dosage calculations/conversion math. BUT...be aware that there is a BUNDLE of books that is offered from the bookstore, and this book WILL BE in that bundle, so if you buy it you will have duplicates.

Squeen try to enjoy your vacay. I have no doubt that you'll STILL get in :)!!!

Nick I'm thinking I'll probably be waiting to get the bundle after I can register for my courses that way I can have it paid for by my job with no money out of my pocket but I"m wasting about 2-3 months if I do that since we probably can't register until after orientation in June...decisions, decisions :(

Yes, Squeen...we are still with you! Hang in there and try to enjoy your time off!! Prayers abound that this will be resolved for you!

Hello :)

Just to calm some fears for those who are alternates. I think you still have a good chance of getting in. I started the program, Fall 2009, and at my orientation, there were 8 people who had accepted their admission to the program, but did not show up for orientation, so they were automatically out of the program. I would hope/think that they offered those seats to additional alternates.

I also know that some do accept their seat and still are not sure if they are attending HCC, so they may also back out before orientation. Keep up hope!!

I know it is stressful waiting to see if you got in and not knowing what to expect in regards to the program, ALL SUMMER, but once it starts, you will have so much to do, time will fly so fast.

I would recommend working on the clinical calculations book, the first 8 chapters, if you have time. As far as reading Potter and Perry, it is hard to really know what to read, as they don't go through the book in order. I would practice NCLEX, even if you don't know the material, it will help you get an idea of the question style, which is very different from regular test questions.

Good luck to all and if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!!
