I am wondering.....

What do you think would be the LVN job that would give the absolute highest pay we can earn as an LVN?

My husband was in jail. Prisoners always gave the healthcare staff crap, because they don't get good care in jail. So if you think it will be interesting, remember that you will be suffering because jail systems don't care too much about the care prisoners are given, and the prisoners know it and get pissed off. They almost amputated my husbands toes because they didn't want to spend money to treat a dangerous spider bite. I think that also goes into ethics. How can you be a good nurse when they don't want you to give the best care....just a little something for you to chew on.

I am LVN in california, 6 yrs exp acute care. At the hospital I was paid $21 hr but made $42k in 05..this included a little over time. Nurse registries, both north and south california are paying $20-23hr with time and half last 4 hrs of 12 hr shift. This would then avg $25.66hr. This is routine north and south and you do not need to work prisions...where the staff is more of a concern than the imates. I know. best to you

There ARE travel opportunities for LPNs, but they are few and far between. I traveled with Supplemental Healthcare for over a year and made ~$27/hr. Your "wage" is only $10-12/hr, but they give you a tax-free "expense stipend" of $550-650/ week.

Otherwise, agency LPNs are paid the highest- and of them, corrections nurses make the most,(at least in Western NY). LPNs out here average about $17/hr & $20/hr for agency.

I'm currently working at one of the county jails and nearly DOUBLED my income by going agency. Two years ago I was making $16/hr per-diem. I returned three months ago through an agency and am now making $30/hr. SWEET! :yeah:

Well Im a hillbilly and my standards for acceptable living may be a little lower than most..lol I bought a 1997 mobile home (16x80 3 bedroom 2 bath) from a friend , it was in ok shape just needed the floor replaced which we did. Not anything fancy but livable. I did that cause I knew me and my husband would both be in school at the same time and I didnt want to choose between eating or paying rent.

We bought a mobile home also 1000 sq. f. for $39,000 and it was built in the 60's. We do not own the space and pay $1,100 a month for space rental......

Please tell me you're not in nursing for the money...

You have to realize when I said prison in California, I was talking about the ones with the death row inmates..You know, killers, child molestors, etc...These are very violent and dangerous people.

Rhode Island and Connecticut pay higher than California and the cost of living here in RI is not bad...A 2 family house cost between 250 or 300 grand...Do the math people!!!

Talk about expensive places to live....Miami, Florida is a very expensive place to live as well... and let me tell the jobs here are not paying on the same scale as places like San Fransico. There are a lot of openings in corrections for nurses...but the pay scale is not very high (new nurses start with 18.50 for days and night nurses $20 w/diff)...a lot of people are moving from Miami due to the high cost of living and the low pay...I priced a townhome yesterday a 3/2 1/2 for $380,000 it's not in a gated community...the average 3/2 house costs $450,000 and a house in a gated community, nice neigborhood, with 4 or more bedroom $700,000. And if you want to rent...ha, ha, in a nice neighborhood, of course, 1bd 1bth $1100

2bd 2bth $1300 and 3/2 as much as $1600. So if you move here not only will the cost of living be high, the pay will not match. And yes, we are planning to move.:o

Same with Orlando, and we're planning to move, too (whenever we can sell our house, that is!)

Please tell me you're not in nursing for the money...

Ok. I know it is a year after that post but, it IS ok to be a nurse for the money. Just like being a Doctor, mechanic, policeman, and any other job. The idea that you have to starve to be a caregiver is as old as the hills. Why spend thousands getting an education, many thousands of hours getting experience and not be able to have a good life and take care of those annoying details like supporting your loved ones? I do like helping people but that is not why I got into nursing. My number one motivation was how much we get paid where I live and, no, contrary to what people always say to us money lovers, I dont hate my job. I love it. Guess what. In spite of getting into it for the money, I bet I am as good a nurse as you are. Turns out, after talking to many of my coworkers, that they would walk out the door in a heartbeat if the money wasn't right. And we all love where we work but you have gotta make a living and it doesnt make sense to make your loved ones suffer just so you can follow your "calling". (Working for nothing)

Hi,

I am an LVN in Marin County also. I am currently looking for a job in this area. I would like to know about this facility in Marin that pays that high?

You can email me at [email protected]

Thanks

i work in west los angeles, at the veterans home of california. we are always looking for lvns and the pay is $3400-$4100/month, which comes out to be around $21-$26 per hour. plus, we have awesome benefits like vacation, ceus, paid holidays, medical/dental/vision. i always thought we paid our lvns on the lower end of the scale, but after looking at some of the other posts and seeing what they pay around the country; i guess it's not too bad. our hr person is really nice, you can always call her if you have any questions about applying.

Is this the same as the VA Hospital? I'm definitely interested thank you for the info!!

No it is actually across from the VA hospital on the other side of Wilshire, it is through the State of California vs. Federal. If you go on youtube, there is a video called "WLA Nursing CDVA" that our DON made about the facility. It is a really beautiful, brand new facility.
