Hi, I'm screwed

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I worked really, really hard this semester and only pulled out a B in A and P I, a C in chem and an F in microbiology. I'm retaking microbiology, but this makes me wonder if nursing is for me and if I should I just go to grad school for counseling psych like I planned. Nursing was always something I wanted to do and I feel like I gave it my best shot.

My plan is to continue the pre-reqs for nursing and apply to both programs in the fall. I'm a loser .

Good Lord, if you took all 3 in one semester, I'm shocked you were able to get a B in any of them.

Yes, nursing is for you. Your only mistake was that you tried to do it all at once.

Retake both the Chemistry and the Micro...but not in the same semester...you need to get that C off your transcript.

PS: Did you get an advisor to help you with your classes or did you just sign up for them? If those courses were approved by an advisor...then that his their fault, not yours...they should have advised against it. But if you registered for these on your own, next time, get an advisor in the nursing department to help you.

That schedule was doomed, honey.

You're not a failure. You're an achiever who strives and sometimes falls short of her goals.

I totally agree. When I did my prereqs, anatomy was a separate course and a prereq for physiology. Chemistry was a prereq for micro. Taking them all together was suicide.

Time to regroup and learn to realistically balance your academic schedule to ensure your success in reaching your goal. Go talk to your counselor.

Do not give up!! You can and will achieve anything you want in life. Use some positive affirmations and the law of attraction to help you focus. This method has changed my whole thought process and my life. El Centro college taught us this method, it works. Write affirmations as if you already have what you want, for example: I have an A in chemistry, I was accepted into the RN program on my first try, I am a successful RN. Repeat them everyday. I thought this was silly when I first learned it, but I committed myself and said them everyday and my pessimistic attitude, that i have had all my life, completely chaNGED TO POSITIVE AND I KNOW I CAN DO ANYTHING. I MADE 12 a'S AND 1b. At least try it for two weeks and see if you start to change your thoughts and your life. Our life really is what we THINK it is!! Good Luck and you are success!!!!

I agree with everyone else and that you should try not to take as many science classes all at once. It's hard enough just to keep up with one!

I did want to add that I failed EVERY single class I took my first semester of pre-reqs. I was discouraged but I retook each class the next semester and aced every single one. That was about two years ago and I am now going into my second semester of my schools RN program with a 4.0 GPA.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It's not the end of the world.

If you want to be a nurse, pick yourself up and try again next semester. You will be fine!!

Specializes in 0 as RN, 3 in ICU and Tele as Tech.

You didn't fail. Taking three sciences at one time was probably alot, taking two is alot but somewhat doable depending on the professor. Micro by itself requires hours of reading and Chemistry with calculations, my goodness. I'm suprised your college allowed you to take three sciences at one time but every school is different.

Let this not deter you from pursuing your dream. Chin up and let this serve as a lesson that you can't put a heavy load on yourself. :yeah:Press on and keep it moving. Perserverance does pay off. :redpinkhe

Peace and Blessings

Wow A&P, Chemistry AND Microbiology all in the same semester?

You are not a loser. That combo would have knocked most people flat. You rode the big horse and got knocked off. Now, get back on that bad boy and whip it into shape! :D

I went through this as well. I took A&P II Lecture, Abnormal Psc, Crisis Intervention, Dosage Calc, A&P Lab I and I recieved a D in A&P Lecture. I am not going to give up though. This may be strange for some but when I thought about this last semester I was discourged like you. My point is I recieved an F on my first A&P Lab class, yet when I took it again this semester I recieved an A+. I think I just tend to freeze on tests and dont think I can do it. The way I look at it now is I can always take it again. This tends to help me not freak so much and I get better grades. It works for me. You can do it, please dont get to discouraged, if I can do it so can you. Also as a footnote: I am glad I took A&P Lab again because there was so much that wasnt taught the first time around and I am more educated than I would have been if I passed the first time!:redbeathe:typing

You're not a loser. Life will be full of failures in one way or another. In your case you made an F. You're doing the right thing by retaking the "micro". Everytime you get knocked down you will have to get back up and carry on.

As a student nurse in the middle of my first med-surg rotation, I can tell you that pre-req classes do not determine who is fit to be a nurse and who is not. Nursing classes are so different than any other classes. It's a new way of thinking and taking in information. So, don't be so hard on yourself. Weigh your options carefully and go with your gut. If you have the desire to become a nurse, give yourself a chance.

Failures are people who never try!!!

Not only did you try, you learned from it so stop with the "I'm a failure" song and

get right back in the saddle; the world of nursing needs you:)

Like Thomas Edison said...

'I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that don't work.'

:D

1st of all shake off that low self esteem.

Chem+mirco are very difficult courses. Most people retake those courses up to 3xs! Just retake mircro and take it alone for the semester if you can. Its not like taking a math course such as calculus; its more like A+P mostly memorization! Go to ratemyprofessors.com and find a good professor.

If its nursing youre passionate about then STICK WITH IT!
