HEY GOP: Attacking Hillary Isn't a Health Plan

Published

when even [http://www.amconmag.com/2007/2007_10_22/cover.html a magazine called "the american conservative" counsels] the republican presidential candidates that they can't live on hillary-hate alone, something is happening.

as nurses fighting for guaranteed healthcare, the california nurses association/national nurses organizing committee tracks this trend in terms of health policy. [http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rose-ann-demoro/memo-to-the-gop-stopping_b_69472.html i will let our executive director rose ann demoro sum it up: attacking hillary clinton is not a health plan.] you can click through to the full article, but here's a taste:

apparently taking their leadership from karl rove who warned that the republican candidates must focus on healthcare because the issue is "on the mind of a lot of swing voters," the republican candidates for president have now latched on to healthcare.

but in the true spirit of their mentor rove, it appears they think our biggest healthcare crisis is the potential election of hillary clinton.

hearing their fulminations about "socialized medicine" and "hillary care" almost makes you wonder what they've been drinking.

in a new report, george lakoff's rockridge institute aptly describes the approach of clinton and the other top tier democrats as the "neoliberal mode of thought" in its dubious reliance on regulation and technocratic changes to an industry that needs to be dismantled, not tweaked.

but at least clinton and company are talking about comprehensive reform. the republican candidates' healthcare policies recall the words attributed, probably erroneously, to marie antoinette whose infamous solution to mass shortages of bread was "let them eat cake."

OMG!:rotfl:
I don't think anyone should be denied healthcare. Especially a nurse who has worked for 30 years.

I think it should be OK to change jobs and still have access to healthcare.

I think it should be OK to move to another state and still have access to healthcare.

I think a man should be able to retire and his wife change jobs and still have access to healthcare.

I think they were being responsible by purchasing a policy.

But their story is published. Yes she was a traveler, then per diem. Shouldn't everyone have access to healthcare?

WHO should be denied access to healthcare?

That is so sad that this poor woman can not get any type of assistance. These are citizens that have been paying taxes their whole working lives. Why is it so easy for those that haven't worked a day in their life to get govt. assistance? Those that won't lift a foot to try to make their lives better? And I'm not talking about the disabled or those that use it as stepping stone until they are independent, I am talking about the able-bodied people that expect all the freebies from the government. I wish there was more of an equal ground when it came to our citizens needing health care coverage.

CRNA "Put forth all these 4 minimum wage job earners, let's see the people one paycheck away from being homeless. Let's see all the elderly alpo eaters. Let's see the 47 million uninsured. I don't want to hear about them I want to see them."

I see them everyday. Then again I am from Chicago and big cities tend to have plenty of poor people.

Now I'm really confused, why are you at your demanding job? So many people would love a job that provides insurance and a good steady income. Any compassion at all?

It is called taking care of MYSELF and my FAMILY ! If someone needs directions on how to do it,I will make it simple.

1)Get the needed education.

2)Get butt out of bed daily and find job.(Maybe two if you have been stupid enough to get yourself into a situation where one is not enough)

3)Show up and do job every day even if you don't feel like it or don't feel as good today as you did yesterday.

4)Spend earnings wisely and put family BEFORE big car,fir coat or big screen T.V.

It ain't rocket science.

I think you missed my point competely. Long-term disability is available at your expense. It was posted as though it was a chore to have to go to a demanding job, and than if LTD is needed, whalla, the poster would be okay along with savings, 401K, etc. Not rocket science.

What is factual is, LTD only covers for X amount of time, so then what? Savings and 401K get used up, then what?

I've gotten my butt out of bed, worked 3 jobs, had a family, put myself through school,am licensed, had a pretty fair 401K,savings, Short-term disability, LTD, a union behind me and guess what? I got sick, real sick, almost died sick, and afer relinquishing all my lovely demanding jobs profits I saved, invested and refianced a house with 9 years left to pay on it, it made a huge impact in my life.

It's not rocket-science that in our industry, working with ill patients that this couldn't happen to anyone of us, let alone goin to the grocery store and having someone cough on us.

Employers have figured the way out of providing decent healthcare coverage and still meet the demands of the law.

Children and adults are in poor health largely due to lack of decent insurance.

It's not rocket science, it's real life, demanding as can be.:trout:
