I have just been accepted in the RN-MSN program for psychiatric mental health NP. Has anyone done this program? I start March 7 and I am super excited and nervous. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
So I'm not afraid of work and applying myself. But for the core classes at least WGU weekly assignment workload is OUTRAGEOUS. Especially, if your taking 2 classes at a time. There have been times that I have had 4 discussion boards due by Wed followed by 8 responses (small essays in APA format) in addition to multiple written assignments all due by Sunday. I kept up, but after 9 months I was so burned out.
After reading a couple of these threads I'm glad I decided to come back to work at a large psych facility before getting into this. I was told they only offer preceptorships here to employees.
Sounds like the biggest issue for most people is the clinical placement. What other issues are people having with the program? I'm supposed to start next month, was kind of sudden but I'm excited.
Which school are you attending and when do you start. I'm doing 2 classes at a time. Subscription to CourseHero is a big help. You will also need a writing tool to help with Grammer and plagiarism. Honestly it's doable. Sometimes a lot of foolish busy work but I'm almost a year in already. I'm at Herzing

They do not help with clinical placement. Just like every other school that promises they do, they absolutely do not. This was one of the reasons I chose herzing university instead even though they don't offer placement they give you a list of potential preceptors you can actually call. I think there's a group/multiple posts you can read on also about people's opinions on this program.

I did not enjoy my instructor. We had to create almost a "faux" clinical. She was extremely critical of everything. Especially discussion posts. I am in research methods and theory now. I enjoy both of these courses tremendously. I start clinicals in March! I have secure two preceptors for my first clinical course.
@Medicalmusic I'm so excited for you! I am really getting in the swing of things. I truly enjoy the program. The support from teachers, my clinical advisor, and the university itself has been awesome. If you ever need anything please let me know!
HI! I have a question. How were the exams for advanced pharmacology?

I'm going to be honest with you. It seems like all these online schools are pretty much the same. I've been doing good at Herzing so far but I hate that we have to do the APEA exam as psychNP students, you have 3 chances to pass and if you fail them you have to repeat the entire semester no matter what your grade is in the course, even if you have a 99%. The school has hardly no guidance, you have to be self-sufficient and driven to succeed. The courses are not difficult. Discussion post, papers, and occasionally quizzes. Otherwise I have been taking it one day at a time and maintaining my 4.0 GPA so far. The school does not provide, nor help with finding preceptors either so you are on your own with that. I have been lucky and found preceptors at the hospital I work at and I've had success on LinkedIn by emailing random people who list themselves as PMHNP or psych doctors.
I'm still working full-time and attending the program. It's doable but has its ups and downs. Sometimes very hard and sometimes easy.
Roxanne, what is the reason why you want to transfer from West Coast University?
