Herzing PMHNP

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone, I will be starting the new PMHNP program at Herzing University in September. Trying to see if there is anyone else that will be starting the program so that we can connect. Since it's a new program, there is no topic about this specialty and maybe this can provide opportunity for potential students to discuss.

Thank you so much! I'll buy these and hopefully they will help!

I read this thread and I can only say that unfortunately "busy work" is a common tactic at for profit schools. Herzing is actually a for profit program that "converted" to not for profit to avoid the stigma but it seems it still operates similar to a diploma mill. Per USNews, the acceptance rate is 100% which means they accept everyone who applies. Make sure your voice your opinion to the program!

Hi anyone starting the PMHNP program in May. I need a reading partner please

Please,  make sure you email to program chair. The more of us let her know, the better.

Hi there! Thank you for offering your experience at Herzing in this program. I am debating whether I should apply to this school for the psych NP as well and wanted to ask if you have found it easier once you got over the psychotherapy hump? Has your experience been more positive or negative? Do you overall suggest this school? Thank you so much, any feedback would be awesome.

Hi any one starting in May

Hi its tricky. Many pros and cons.

The amount of school work is considerably higher than other NP schools I know about...e.g.National university.

E.g. adv pharma class: every week: 2 discussion posts with 4 replies (discussion posts are long here as they have 2 case studies with 4 points to answer for each), 1 paper at least 8 pages and test. Wayyyy too much. But having said that if you do well on papers and discussions you only need 40% on the tests. But discussions are not automatic 100% points like other schools...depends on teacher but they want reference in each paragraph,  perfect apa and socratic reasoning...

Adv. Patho was better as it only had 1 discussion post and not 2 and only 2 papers total and test every week with totally random questions.

So its quite some busy work:( but there are some good things e.g. I found the school well organized,  prompt replies r.t.processing my preceptors atd. Which many schools are not great with. The fact that they are organized is a big plus.

Pist masters pmhnp is 18 months.

You do need to find your preceptors 100%. Their placement pledge is worthless but thats same with all schools. There is facebook page herzing pmhnp ...for more resources...

So I don't know...I will see in these next 2 classes but still thinking about transferring to national university.

Ps: if you go for herzing you can get 25% discount for being member of national Hispanic nurses association...you don't have to be Hispanic to join:).

Hello! I’m looking to maybe start this fall or Spring semester but worried it might be too much.  I have two kids and work full time.  What are your thoughts? Also worried because I’ve been a Med surge nurse in a hospital for 6 years but looking to move to psyche.  Do you think I need psyche experience first? How is it finding preceptors?

So, as many of you know about a month ago the curriculum requirements for the PMHNP program changed leaving many of us in a "pickle." We now do not have a chair for the program, which is concerning. The school workload is a lot of "busy" work! You get no instruction or teaching, it is self-taught, which is scary! I am very disappointed in the program. I thought I made the best decision for myself and my family and now I feel like I am stuck! If you change and go to another program you lose a lot of time, pushing your graduation date further. For some that is an option, for me, it is not. The issues keep growing! If I were you I would look elsewhere!
