Sorry for the typo's and grammar issue. Message was typed during break.

Frankly, I think this is racism. She felt threatened? What the heck? You're bobbing your head and waving your finger? I'm offended. Even were you doing that, so? Maybe they need to learn to communicate with persons of color.

I would lawyer up. And rewrite - grammar, styled - what you have written above as your rebuttal.

Idiots.

I agree with Suesquatch, what you've written is the truth. Enough for a rebuttal, but have someone proofread your final copy. Get representation, and make sure this gets into your personnel file along and attached to your writeup.

Your attention to details appears to be excellent, they should be glad to work with you.

Good Luck,

Maisy;)

Where do I even start??

Write this up clearly with proper spelling and grammar:

#2 Find the policy for your ICU on KVO rates and write it down

"My mgr. was like you can question another nurse about policy". (?)

this is not clear to me

#3 You found the patient's chest tube inside his BOWEL

MOVEMENT??? :uhoh3: I don't see how that is possible. Who put it in?

I'm cross eyed at that one. Can you please explain?

You found his cordis pulled out (OK)

Nurse reported YOU for bringing the chest tube and cordis to

her attention??? Was this HER patient? How long had the patient been like that? (pull the chart) Why did it take a doc 4 HOURS to replace a cordis??? How did pt. live with a perforated bowel?

Too many missing links...

#4 RN didn't call the MD and lost strip? etc. WTH??? :uhoh3:

Go directly to the DON with this clear documentation, Faith. Your manager has several issues in addition to the other nurses. Sounds like this entire dept. needs an overhaul!!!! and is dangerous. I almost can't believe this is true. Good luck!!

Seeing that is all about hurt feelings. The other nurses don't like feeling stupid and your competence makes them "feel" like you are out to get them. I mean, how dare you ask about a written policy that is being quoted to you. I would go to HR and start talking about YOUR FEELINGS. How you feel hurt by how your manager talked to you, that you feel hurt by the other nurses , and that you "feel" that your work place is now a hostile climate. You need to learn how to play the "I have hurt feelings" game.

Also agree with Suesquatch, lawyer up when you bring your written rebuttal in.

honestly, i'm having trouble following it, too.

so, i have hesitated in responding.....never mind suggesting "racism".

if there are complaints with the way you communicate, then yes, you need examples, so you can find a way of relaying questions/concerns, without others getting offended.

as to what other nurses do, that is not your problem.

any concerns about nsg care, should be reported and let them take care of the rest.

you do not know whether mgmt is dealing with them, nor should you be privy to such information.

right now, as it stands, there is 'some' problem in communication.

from what you've written here, i would have to agree.

except, i am not feeling offended, but there are issues of clarity.

don't worry so much about what is happening with your peers.

continue to grow/develop in your role, worry only about yourself.

best of luck.

eta: yes- i DO think you would benefit by contacting an attorney. you need advocacy and protection. and it does sound like your peers may be threatened by your knowledge. that is their problem. you have every right to inquire about p&p. if someone gets insulted, again, that is on them. your only goal is to protect your pts and your license. but if there is a genuine problem with your communication, it is up to you to learn what you can from any constructive criticism. and again, don't worry about what is happening w/your coworkers.

During report the nurse stated Mr. x was very agitated around 4:30am. B/P increased with resp distress. She never told me she assessed the patient to find the problem. During my 7:30am assessment I noticed Mr. X chest tubes was lying inside of his bowel movement with distress. I immediately notified the MD. about the chest tube and Cordis (blood had saturated the sheets)

There are obviously a lot of issues going on here. I know that you don't want to hear this but your communication style in the postings is a little difficult to follow. I can see where others may feel there is a problem with communication if you speak the way that you post - especially when you are in a hurry or are frustrated. My first suggestion is that you start immediately to evaluate how you your words and body language look and sound to others. There are a lot of people who come across differently than how they are meaning to. Especially if you are confident in your skills and work with a lot of people who are not (as it seems from your posts that you do). You sound like someone who is frank and to the point - no beating around the bush. I like this type of person as I am one of these people, but the majority of people prefer to waste time and think that beating around the bush and being politically correct are the best way to communicate. So bluntness scares them and makes them feel ill at ease. Be aware of this and work on tailoring your communication to suit them. Yes, it's a PIA, but in the end, it makes things much smoother.

I am very concerned that because of your personality, they feel that you don't fit in and aren't right for their team. Thus they have been told to get a paper trail started on you to either legally harass you into quitting, or to be able to fire you. In either case, your job is in jeopardy. You must immediately get a notebook and write down all these interactions that you have told us about, include dates/times/witnesses (to the best of your ability). You will need to keep this notebook and after every shift you need to document what happened during the shift. Problems that you found with other staff's work. Interactions with other staff including good and bad moments. Also include any pts or family members that have a problem with you or if they compliment you. Don't forget any and all interactions with the manager. Don't forget to use direct quotes.

You definitely will want to write a rebuttal, since they have put things in writing. Let me warn you, once you do this, it is going to get even uglier. But it looks like they have backed you into a corner. As the others have said, make sure that someone else proofreads and edits your rebuttal. In fact, write it up, have someone go through it, then go through it again in a day or two. It is easier to see where you need to tweak things when you are not so angry like you probably will be when you write it out.

You are in a fight and it is hard to see how this will all turn out. The ball is now in your court. You must be as perfect as you possibly can be. No mistakes. Play their little games and smile even though you want to slap them silly every time you see them. You have to prove that they are wrong about you. It is so hard to play by their rules. In the end, you will have to decide if it is worth it to fight for your job and possibly your license, or to admit defeat and move on. But if you don't document EVERYTHING, you have no chance to preserve your good name. Good luck to you.

I read it as the patient had been incontinent, and the dislodged CT was lying in the mess.

he pulled his chest tube out and ingested it?????

dang, so many questions in my mind....
