Help! I'm getting down to the science classes and I do not know what order I should take these classes to get the most out of them. One teacher tells me to take chemistry first, some students say try microbiology first. What is the best game plan?
Here are the science classes I still need to take before nursing school:
A&P I & II
Microbiology
Chemistry I & II
Growth & Development
I still have to take Statistics my US Governments too! But I want to start my sciences, I just don't know where to turn first! Help!
I need some good old advice!
Thanks!

If you're wanting to do it in two semesters I would take A&P I, g&d, and Chemistry I...then next semester I would take A&P II, Chemistry II and Micro. BUT this will be a LOT of work. You can do it...but just be prepared to have your nose in a book most of the time. Others may have different suggestions...but this is what I would do to knock these out!!! GL

I would take:
Chemistry 1
Anatomy & Physiology 1
Anatomy 2 with growth & development (I am doing that now)
Chemistry 2
and Microbiology
Take Statistic by itself in a Summer session if you can.

Girl I don't know what to tell ya. You should have mixed your easy and hard classes together. Taking all those hard classes at the same time is nuts!!
for example- my first semester in college I took:
A&P
english
math
orientation
music
2nd semester
stat
sociology
newpage
Basically I spread mine out so that I won't have a heap of easy classes one semester where I don't have alot of work to a bunch of hard classes that would make me go bald from stress.
You can do it girl and I hope that everything works out for you, you should try to talk to an advisor at your school.
Also, how long do have before nursing school? Maybe you can take some classes over the summer. Like I said before good luck to ya and I hope everything works out.

Ditto to what Futurenurse said.
Also, does your school have pre-req requirements? Some schools require a term of chemistry before a/p. Personally, I found I could learn enough chemistry on the fly to get through a/p just fine.
It also depends on how important gpa is to the schools you're applying to.
A lighter load will probably mean better grades, but take longer.
Micro was really easy for me because I had already learned so much of it in my 3 terms of a/p. It was good to take micro last.
Good luck! My best advice would be to take all the time you can, so you can get good grades and really learn the material.

Do chemistry first - you need to know the basics to start the rest.
Then do A&P - first you need to know about the body
Then do either Micro or G&D last, I don't think it matters which order here.
It's not a good idea to do micro before A&P and chemistry. Micro is a pretty advanced class, and it makes more sense if you've got a strong scientific basis first.
Thanks for all the responses! I'm going to limit myself to only two classes a semester. I've been doing most of my classes online, since the school is about 45 minutes away and I have 3 children. But I want to take all my science classes on campus, so I have waited to take those until my little one gets into public school...which will be kinder next year!
So I'm thinking for Fall, Chem I and US Gov are looking pretty good. I'm not under any time limit for these prenursing courses, and seeing as getting into my nursing school of choice is all about grades, I am trying my hardest to keep mine high!
Thanks for the advice!

Chemistry was a requirement to take A&P and the teacher kept saying 'see why you had to have chemistry?" I would definitely take chemistry first, well that's just what I did but then we had to. And try to take a summer class. Statistics is something you can do online but I wouldn't try it as I know I hate the subject and really need a teacher to teach me that kind of Math. :) I did A&P in the summer and it was crazy but then I only had one class to concentrate on so that was nice. I could get it out of the way.
Good luck to you and may you get the highest grades possible!

I would do the chemistry first ONLY because many programs require A&P and Micro to be completed within a certain amount of time, usually w/i 5 years of entrance into a nursing program.
Yes, this seems like a long time, but you never know what will happen. You don't want to have to repeat A&P because you took it first.
I didn't take chemistry before A&P or Micro because it wasn't required for my ADN program. However, I took it as a requirement for my RN-BSN bridge program.
I made an A in both A&P and Micro, and Micro without chem. I've heard having chemistry helps, but I guess it all really boils down to the amount of time you are willing, or have available to study.
Good luck!

Take your chem classes first before micro and A&P!!!!
I twill make the A&P and micro class a tad less painful.
