Help!

Published

Hello, I'm currently going back to community college after an 8 year absence to finish up a general associates degree. I am really hoping to transfer into a nursing school/program after. I didn't get the best grades while in school 8 years ago, was unfocused and going through a difficult time. I only need 12 credits to finish an associates and was hoping to transfer straight into a nursing program after. My question is, what are my best options as of where I should go? I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and I'm not sure if I should go to a specialized school or a university? I don't have a lot of money and I'm really confused on this whole process. Will my associates degree transfer over to a nursing school such as Chamberlain or is it worthless? Would I be going for an associates in nursing or would I go straight to a bachelors since I already will have an associates, although it is not specialized in nursing. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am so lost and confused in this whole process. Thank you!

You need to be sure of that before you explore your options any further. There is a point where earned credits are no longer valid unless they resulted in a degree.

I agree.

I didn't have to do any courses due to me having an associates degree; I had to CLEP to get a higher grade for my science GPA, but I didn't have to do much; it also depends on the school.

OP, I suggest your find out if your local CC has a transfer center where you can find out which credits transfer and what schools you are interested in attending.

Many community colleges have a direct transfer agreement with the State University system and usually with the local private colleges as well.

The bottom line, OP, is that only an admissions counselor at the school that you hope to enroll in will be able to answer these questions for you.

Your science credits may be too old. If not too old, they may not be the pre-requisite courses that the BSN program wants. You may need additional pre-requisite courses completed at your current school before being considered for acceptance to the nursing program.

You have to call them ;)

Good luck!

College hours are most certainly not "for life." The nursing school I'm applying to will only accept college credits taken within the past 7 years - even for subjects like English. As others have said, your best bet is to talk to an admissions counselor!

Some of my 1981-1984, and all of my 1990-1992 credits transferred when I went back in 2013.

My non-science university credits that were over 20 years old transferred for my diploma program and then the rn-bsn program.
