I need help! Please! I have been an LVN for 20 years. I have DWI on my record and have been given standard stips for the next two years. I am writing this in the hope that someone will read this who can help. I live a long distance from any area that could offer an opportunity. All employers in my area seem to be owned be corporations now. I have general stips on my license. Nothing that impedes my ability to do any job duty given. However, these corps have a "NO hire" policy for any stipulations at all. I have petitioned the board explaining my situation. Just keep getting told to keep looking. I have had to apply now for food stamps due to my lack of employment. I have been out of work for over a year now. Do not know what else to do. I live in the Fort Worth/Waco area.

Please HELP!

If you do not meet the requirements of the facilities around you (no stipulations), then you have two options: find a job outside of nursing until the stipulations are off your record, or relocate to an area where there are facilities without such restrictions. Right now, many areas are seeing an employers' market where they can be very choosy about who they hire. The BON exists to protect patients, and petitioning them will not work.

I agree that these look like your only two options, especially since the BON has told you to keep lookong, and won't consider removing the stipulations.

I'm not sure how any of us could help you. Most nurses in general are having a tough time finding employment, even without stips. And LPN's are being phased out of some facilities/areas so there aren't a lot of jobs to begin with.

The only Nursing Jobs that I have heard of that will hire nurses with stips are dialysis, nursing homes, and maybe hospice and LTAC. I am an experienced RN and I got job offers regardless of my stips, but I could not get past HR at any hospital in the Houston area. I'm sure D/FW is the same way.
