Help - (sigh) Can't seem to let this go...

Ok, so I'm 1) feeling very, very slighted and 2) sorry for myself. My agency is holding a two-day inservice - for RN's only (:angryfire) for training in our specialty. Why RN's only? Don't know. My supervisor says she doesn't know why LPN's weren't invited.... (Gee, do you think you could find out???? Of course not.) It has nothing to do with case management, it is specific training for what we do every day. Yet again, I feel slighted. I do the exact same job - every day - alongside an RN. I am expected to do the same tasks and carry the same case load and responsibilities - of course for less money. I accept that. But gee, I'd like that extra training too! Who will be out covering the RN's that day? Guess who?? What gets me is I have obtained specialty certification in this field that 99.9% of the RN's haven't, included the RN I work with. This is starting to really affect my attitude (and feelings!)

Thanks for letting me vent. Any suggestions on what I could do or just suck it up and deal with it?

Thanks,

(My bold) If it's that big of a deal, why not go for some extra training that will solve the problem!

Get you RN!

I was an LPN for many years, and I did.

Yes, I know that's the obvious answer. We do not, repeat, do not have the financial means for me to go back to school right now. I do plan to. I guess I was just looking for some commiseration...

And please, I don't want to turn this in to a LPN/RN debate. I love my job. I love being an LPN. I know my scope of practice. I know I'm not an RN. But does that mean that I shouldn't get the same training to do the same job???

It would frost my cookies.

You have a union?

No, no union.

Sometimes it just bites.

:(

perhaps they are planning to do lpns at another time?

never know

did they tell you RN's only? you should ask your boss what is going on with that. i'm sorry you feel slighted and i don't blame you.

I let my slights accumulate. When I have too many of them, I find another employer and start giving them more of my attention than the employer who is slighting me. I don't officially resign unless I'm leaving the area or really, really, really ticked off. The offending employer thinks I'm not available. I am not available; not available to them.

I'm like you, caliotter, I let my slights accumulate, too. The thing is, they just invited the RN's by phone and didn't say anything to anyone else. The training wasn't even posted. Just kind of like by invitation only. I'm having a very hard time letting this go. Maybe I'm just getting too burnt out. Do I say something to my supervisor (again), or go to Education or to someone higher on the food chain? Or just forget it and move on? And I doubt they're having a separate one for LPN's. There's only about 6 of us tops, and I'm the only one to ever seems to speak up. :angryfire

Maybe you would feel better if you went with an agency that had a higher number of LPNs vs RNs. When most of your worker bees are LPNs it makes it a little harder to treat them as second class, although there are those who will do this no matter what. But you know, you really need to be looking into a way to get your RN. This will always pop up and be a thorn until you join the "enemy".
