I am writing a paper for school about the NICU being so understaffed. If anyone could give me any type of information on this topic, I would be so pleased. I need things like how it effecting everyone, what the hospitals are doing to improve this situation, how the nurses cope with this, any solutions that can help, ect. Again thank you for your help and I understand that this situation is becoming a growing issue and I truly hope something gets done soon about it. More people need to have this brought to their attention.

I seriously hope that none of you are ever my nurses because every single one if you are some if the rudest people ever. I'm a second year student in Medical Sonagraphy. I'm writing the paper but we can have information from real nurses in the paper and yes there is a problem with the NICU being understaffed. Instead of you all being rude and telling me to do my research maybe you all should because i have already done my research. Every state is different just like every hospital is different. Some NICUs are properly staffed others are understaffed. Some of you all need to work on being rude. Don't be telling me to do my own hw when you don't know if I have or have not. I have done research and have crediable sources. Do any of you Smarty pants need them so u can verify them? Goodness. I asked for help so I can quote you because nurses are suppose to be on this site from all the reviews and my teacher told me I could ask and see if anyone would give me information for the paper but all I have is 6 rude people. Maybe I need to do a paper on how rude nurses are. I have some proof here..I hope you all have a wonderful day now.
Yeah, well I bet a lot of nurses here who are also educators hope you are never their student because *you* are so rude and seem to expect others to do your work. You didn't explain any work/research you may have done and instead expected nurses to just give you information. And when actual nurses explain understaffing is not necessarily a huge issue, you rudely contradict them with only one anecdotal example. Lovely.

Well to play devil's advocate, the nurses that said NICU understaffing wasn't an issue provided no references to support their position. Not looking to argue, just pointing that little detail.

True enough.
I really wish people would stop expecting us to do the bulk of their research for them - and even if that isn't the case now, it does happen a lot here. How do they think we all wrote our papers before social media?

I think everyone pretty much just said that they'd not heard of it being an issue. No one definitively declared it as a fact. Besides, how do you "support" a negative? I've never seen a headline blaring "No NICU shortages this week!"

That was just a rebuttal to the stated "anecdotal example" mentioned. My point was that if one is going to say that the OP had an anecdotal example, then that anecdotal example should be rebutted with data. That was my whole point. And I made no claims about proving a negative. This is good discussion. I also agree that the OP should refrain from calling people out as rude here.

Maybe you should have explained better in the first place. Do you know how many lazy student nurses post here looking for answers rather than doing their homework themselves? Hence the responses.
I've never worked in NICU and I'm also not in the US, so I can't help.
Oh, and never ever ever say "I hope you are never my nurse" to people based on a comment in a forum - it really doesn't go down well.
Have a nice day!!
